Matt Moore on his fate with the Panthers

1. Who benefits? The entire season in 09 was purely about testing out the youth.....not allowing Fox to have Jake meant one way or another Fox was forced to start youth (Moore, Clausen, Pike). Fox didn't like any of them.

The only problem is Clausen nor Pike were on the team when Jake was let go.

Their was no way they could have planned that Jimmy would fall to them in the 2nd round and he would be their starting QB.

Moore was the plan Jimmy was not suppose to be where we could get him.

The FO thought Moore would build off of his great 2009 and atleast keep the team at 500. until the CBA was done. They felt like they got lucky when Jimmy dropped.

Jimmy was a back-up plan in case Matt Flopped. They both sucked and now we have CAM.

PS: Also let's not act like Fox's was on Jimmy bandwagon either.

Throw in the fact that our team got away from our core because we were trying to find out what we had at receiver after drafting 3 of them, the teams we faced in preseason, the clusterfug that was the coaching staff, the lost reps with Clausen on board, etc and you saw the results.

Lost reps!!!!!!

Dude for most of TC Clausen was behind Cantwell. So blame Cantwell for all those lost reps MM didn't have.

Also MM looked great with this clusterfug coaching staff in 2009.

Plus I'm pretty sure he had a good game without #89,Gross, Otah, and Dwill in the last game of the season against NO. Their are no excuses for his bad preseason performance.

So tell me what you really meant then?

I don't think I'm twisting when you say "Fox got tired of playing musical chairs so he settled on Clausen"

How am I misinterpreting that?

Explain how I messed that quote up.

Fox did play musical chairs....he didn't know what he wanted to do at QB. He then basically did say, F it and rode Clausen at the end.

He said F it b/c Moore, Pike, and St. Pierre all went down or couldn't find the strength to play.....they were all being toyed w/ in Fox's mind. Once more and more bodies were taken away as option...Fox said F it.

didn't matter, Carolina was going to put young QBs on the roster. Jake was done.

Moore clearly was NOT the plan. You don't throw a plan in the trash during week 2.

Their is no way in hell at pick 48 they planned to get a 1st year starting QB.

What team has ever planned to get a Day one starting QB in the Middle of the 2nd round??????

Moore was given a big tender and they cut Jake in FEb. They didn't even try to sign a QB during the FA period. MM was the plan he had this season to prove if he can be a NFL starting caliber QB.

PS:The plan was starting to fail after a Jeff Lewis like preseason and and week 2. Stop skimming over how bad he looked in the preseason. Some QB don't make it to the regular season playing shitty like that. (see Jeff Lewis)

Moore was an undrafted rookie who was never even good enough for a practice squad. Matt was one of Marty Hurney's biggest mistake that cost us 2 seasons of mediocre play at the most important position on the team. At least Marty learned that lesson..

Matt was never going to be a great QB and could hardly rate as a adequate QB. As a backup he was cheap insurance and just like cheap insurance, you quickly find that it wasn't worth the money you paid for it.

Honestly I can't figure out where the love is for this middling QB. He accomplished next to nothing, if he hadn't had a great game against the Giants and the Saints in 2009 I'd be comfortable in saying he was a bust.

Let's just stop this self mutilating desire to "give Matt another shot". It's over for Matt, at least for his stay at Carolina.

Just listened to the interview...interesting how he said he'd been throwing for a while now when other people here were telling me he wouldn't be able to start throwing until May.

TheRealDeal, how do you know so much about football?????

On a serious note, he handled the questions well and didn't say he didn't get a fair shot and took the responsibility that you have to play well when you get a shot, no matter if it's a fair shot or not.

Back to hating.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
