Just imagine what our cap situation looks like if we trade peppers. Too bad it will probably be too late for us to be an impact in FA.

Yeah but brother who out there is really worth a ton of money? Hanesworth and Peppers :D We aren't getting Ray Lewis, and our LB's are good enough that Bart Scott shouldn't even be messed with.

We need to work the DL through the draft and a FA that is a situational pass rusher, and shore up the secondary which we can do with the cap room we will have.

I see someone making a play for Peppers and it will free up the cap room that we can use for next year.

once we get rid of pep and lucas, and if we restructure jake, that should give us plenty of room to make a couple moves in F/A

Lucas is only going to save us around 2.7 million on the season. If he was cut last year that Number would've doubled. Also the only thing we can do with Delhomme is give him a contract extension. He's in the last year of his deal so we can't restructure his contract any.

Or get a start on keeping players that are coming up on Free agency next year. We are really in a good spot once Peppers is traded.

Were still over and still need to makes some more cuts. If peppers off the roster in early FA, we can sign some middle Tier free agents to help the line out.

If I am right a lucas trade frees up 2.5 mill??? Peppers nearly 17. Restructure Jake and extend his contract and we free up say 3.5 more mill. Ok now we are sitting here on about the 3rd day of free agency with nearly or at 30 mill in cap room. Who do you go after? Hanesworth isn't worth 16 mill per year, even if we have the cap room. Some times you just gotta say no.

Ray Lewis?

Or do we really throw a monkey in the wrench so to speak and trade pepp to NE for Matt Castle, cut Delhomme and give castle a 5 year deal?

Just something to think about.

So i'm guessing your not expecting an uncapped year next year. Most of the nfl experts say it's most likely going to happen.

If it's uncapped we won't compete being small market anyway. I don't see it being uncapped. If they can get Troy Vincent in there as NFLPA head honcho he will sit down with the owners and hammer something out. Some of the players lose if it's uncapped. It also means to be a UFA its now SIX years, not 4 you have to be with the team.

I just dont see an uncapped year is all.

Build through the draft.

Normally I agree wholeheartedly with this concept, especially for struggling teams, but there are exceptions. Sometimes though you only need one or two pieces and you know what those pieces are, and that's why going after a FA DE or DT makes a lot more sense than spending time waiting on one to develop after drafting them.

What about the other 18 teams below us in Team worth?

    • 100%. Nick Scott was awful last year. Like, even for a franchise that hasn't historically invested in that position, it stood out for how awful it was. If he sees meaningful snaps at S again we're cooked.  Maybe he has value for ST, but I certainly hope we can upgrade. Jordan Fuller, who was by all accounts an Evero guy, was almost as bad. Xavier Woods was bad, but not complete garbage. Still did not want him back. Those 3 guys seriously may have been the worst S group in the NFL. And they all were brought in, especially Fuller, as good fits for this system. Everyone knocks the defensive line, and they deserve a lot of blame, too, but so, so many times our safeties inability to tackle let 4-5 yard runs turn into 10+. And it happened over and over and over again if you watch the film. Honestly, Demani Richardson was the only S by the end of the year I remember making positive plays. I have no issue with Richardson being in the mix and/or competing to be a starter, but we still need another S desperately IMHO who has actually played meaningful snaps in the NFL. The only caveat/excuse for our secondary was the fact our pass rush was nonexistent for large stretches last year. Maybe that helps with coverage, but I dont see how that makes any of these guys better at tackling.  I know it somewhat feels like piling on at this point, but I feel 100% confident in saying this was the worst tackling team in franchise history. The 70ish yard pass play we gave up to Jamarr Chase where he ran through and past everyone in the secondary has to be up there in terms of most embarrassing plays I've ever seen. I can't imagine how embarrassed Kuechly must have been watching from the booth... I think bringing back Evero was a mistake, but for a team that has had nothing but change over the past 5 years, I'm willing to see this through. I definitely think we added significantly to the floor of this defense with the additions we made. I dont think Evero has any further excuses if he cant field a unit that can at least somewhat hold their own. Fixing the safety play is going to be a big part of that.
    • While I would like to see Nikishkin play, I definitely wouldn't want it to be for Chatty who is a lockdown defender like Slavin
    • 2 teams with sub 2% odds winning it within a span of less than 20 years. Quite unbelievable.
