I udnerstand that Lucas had a bad year, and got beat a lot. But we got hardly any pressure giving Qb's all the time they want to pick us apart. Im not saying trading Lucas is a bad idea IF we have a replacement in mind. Can Marshall really replace Lucas? Im not sure he will do a lot better. I think he's good and ill give him a chance, but really the results will be the same.

As far as the thread title. Who will take over for Marshall if he moves into #2? CJ Wilson cannot be our nickel corner! He sucks! Teams will continuosly pick on him, and slot recievers will eat him alive! I cringe everytime i see him on the field period. The FO better have an answer for our nickel spot, hell i like Wesley better than CJ Wilson! Id much rather keep Lucas if they plan on moving CJ Wilson into the rotation...

I remember hearing that some in the Panthers organization see C.J. Wilson as a CB of the future. I don't know if the changes to the defensive staff have changed the outlook, though.

The coaching staff had been real big on Wilson all year last year. They wanted to cut him, but he just kept improving and making a case for himself. Most of that defensive staff is gone, but I bet Fox likes him and is willing to give him a shot. I don't think he is that bad, and heck, he is so young that it is impossible to judge his talent level based on very limited playing time in his first season.

How much did he play at CB last year? They will not just throw him in there.

If I can remember he rarely played, and was inactive for most games. Other posters made it seem like he was in the game a lot. According to NFL.com, he played in only 4 games, and probably was limited in those games. I don't see how anyone can say they cringed when he came in the game based on that limited experience.

Exactly so how would he become a start this year.

He played in 2007 also, he has more than 7 games under his belt, as well as preseason...He's not good, and i will be very upset if we salary dump Lucas moving this inexperienced corner into the field to get destroyed. Other than his contract year Lucas has been much better than Gamble, but thats an arguement for another day...I just dont want our best CB to leave without a good replacement, or good young guys moving up which other than Marshall i dont see on our roster..

    • One word to describe next year's QB draft class...DEEP!  To me, this is Bryce's make or break year.  The organization probably doesn't feel that way and will likely anoint him as the starter to at least 2027 no matter what.  Some of these dude's will likely stay in college, but the bulk of them will be coming out.  Manning and Sellers are two probably staying. That's not to say that the 2027 QB class will be crappy or thin, because I honestly don't know.  It usually does skip at least a year--or more, but rarely two bumper crops of QBs in consecutive years. https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2026/story/_/id/45453107/2026-nfl-draft-quarterback-class-top-prospects-klubnik-sellers-manning
    • I think Ransom will be a solid player for us.  He played beside Caleb Downs, the cornerstone of the Ohio State defense last year and some have him as a top 5 pick for the 2026 draft.  He was characterized as the smart, instinctive, versatile safety.   I just don't think S will be a liability unless we have injuries.  I am very interested in seeing what they have in the three UDFA safeties; I see one making the roster. As for CB, I think they are higher on Wade-Smith than most of us are. Again, depth is a concern.  We have to hope Jackson has another solid season and Horn does not injure his leg or toe on one of the yard lines.   I am not sure I would compare it to last season's DL because this year's DL will cover a lot of deficiencies, but I know what you mean---our weak link.
