Need help/money and college question

Ok, so I've been unemployed long enough and I'm taking a different approach. Instead of settling for something that sucks I'm trying to go to school for something that pays ok, enough to keep our heads above water, and is something I can do physically since I have a major surgery in two weeks.

I'm trying to go to Davidson CCC for their Medical/Heathcare Coding class. It's a cert course through Con Ed that will get you a job in just one semester. My wife is due to go to school in January, so this is a perfect opportunity for me to do something. The problem, however, is that I can't afford it. It cost nearly 800.00. My Chiropractor who motivated me to change directions chipped in 200, but I need 600 ASAP as this is an open enrollment and there are only 6 more seats available for this semester.

Since this is a certificate course rather than degree I don't qualify for Financial Aid or a lot of the grants and stuff thats out there. I am applying for one scholarship, but the lady who told me about it said she didn't think there was any money left in it.

Family isn't an option, with just unemployment as income getting a loan isn't an option either, that I'm aware of. The ESC can't help either.

So, anyone have any idea's or experience with this? I'm happy to do a loan, but deferred payment are a must since I wouldn't be able to make payments on it until I'm gainfully employed once again.

So, what ya got?

FAFSA offered financial aid at one point for certificate programs, but I don't know which ones or if it still does. You should head over there and check it out, you may need to call them because their website pisses me off (but maybe it'll be OK for you).

have you contacted the community college itself to see if they have any information?

FAFSA deadline passed way back in March.

The best I can tell you to do is to look in the newspapers or in CraigsList part time jobs add section. Some people put in ads for something to be done quickly and not too strenuous for some bucks. There should be some studies being done as well that can pay some cash. That may not be much, but it'll help.

And like teeray said, check out the bank. You may be able to work something out with them.

Finally, even if you’ve completely missed filing deadlines, you are still encouraged to file your FAFSA. Regardless of when you apply, you should be eligible for at least the Federal Stafford and Parent (PLUS) loans, which offer very favorable terms. And if you demonstrate need, Federal Pell Grants and other forms of aid may still be available.

I guess you could try to sell something of yours that has some value. Craigslist is pretty user friendly and you never know what you might get. You could always pawn stuff... If all else fails... Pimp your wife out...<--- that last one was definitely a joke... But I'm sure you have already told her that you would... Of course I hope that she laughed!

    • I'm salty every time I see someones mid picks become stars while we throw first and second rounders over and over and they all stink outside of Tet (who still has a lot to prove, imo)
    • There is a contingent that is total Bryce but they weathervane with the wind. When the good Bryce wind blows about once or twice a month we hear a lot from them. But they are always pro Bryce, they just don’t pipe up too much when he sucks. I can’t speak for them, as far as what they are looking at.    In a second contingent, the collective mind is made up. He has had had basically three years worth of starts that might include a top tier outing or two, a few second tier outings, offset by about the same number of bottom tier outings which actually may have the edge there.  The rest of his stuff is third tier and that is going to be the bulk of his starts. We want to move on. And we aren’t getting off of that hill until he puts us off of it. He has not.    There is a third contingent that has no conviction and definitely weather vanes. Bryce is good. Bryce isn’t good. Depending on the latest game. They will buy into 7 on 7 success so that should tell you something.
    • Nacua is really fuging good. He might be a better version of Cooper Kupp.
