put more than one trap out. i've had the problem twice now. once in the house. i think they came in with the christmas tree that time. i always put out 4. sometimes they'd get the cheese without springing a trap, but it isn't likely to happen on all of them. the first night i got 3. the next i got 2. it took me 4 nights to not catch any.

the next time it was in the garage, and it only took 2 nights to not get a dead mouse.

edit: about the d-con...you never know where they are going back to. you could end up with dead mouse stench coming from your walls. that and my dogs is why i didn't go with that option. plus the old school mouse traps are so cheap!

Yup, I set off a bug bomb a couple of months ago in the crawl space to get rid of ants and about 4-5 days later I could smell something dead, I'm pretty sure it wasn't the ants.

I repeat. Mash the cheese into the holes in the trigger plate! The mice won't get out without springing the trap.
