Sales Jobs

Whats good about them?

I ask because every time I update my engineering resume on various websites, I am approached for them. I was just called about one here in Wilmington as a matter of fact.

I'm leery of such a position from hearing about commission only positions, cold calling, etc., but there has to be something good about them. Right?

If you have a good job keep it. Ive been in sales for 15 years now and they always tell you how great it is. Its not. Good sales jobs are very rare and you will find yourself unemployed at the drop of a hat.

The only sales that I would consider if I were you, would be engineering sales where you aren't really having to hard sell anything, just kind of giving the client that little extra push. That's the only sales I know of where you don't have to be some kind of super ego that can force your will upon others.

I'd worry about not selling enough to make the commission.

Depends on what your commish structure is and what product you are selling

Right now, I only get a small amt of commish on top of my salary for each client I bring in, and I had to convince them to give me that, theyve never done that before.

Some companies will start you off with a base salary and low commission and once you get the hang of it, they will lower the salary and higher the commish.

Some companies will offer you a percentage of the profit margin, so you are getting a certain %age of the profits made off sales.

It all depends. Everyone has that fear they won't sell anything, you just gotta get over it. It goes away once you become more confident. That also depends on if you have to make quotas or not.

Commission only positions are always a risk though, you don't have anything to fall back on if you aren't selling, but if you are selling, you can be ballin!

huh? how about selling the product using your knowledge based on the product and how it performs in your certain industry?

facts usually work a little better than "forcing your will upon others"

it never hurts to have a good personality and be approachable. that's why most people in sales are outgoing.

commission. that's what's good about it.

heck yeah!

My husband sells..he kicks ass at it..and we..I mean, he's getting a giant ass commission check at the end of this month and a fat one next month too.... :)

I guess it depends on what you sell and if you like selling it as to how well you're gonna do

Let me rephrase, from my experience in sales that involves things that people don't necessarily need, the people that strike it rich in that area usually have a personality type that is very special and can walk into a place and convince the target that they need what they have and get them to buy a lot. Like the "sell ice to an eskimo" type of person.

This King Klong. Engineering jobs are one of the "rare" good sales jobs. I don't have an engineering degree so I cant persue them.

    • I think it's more related to the difference between proven talent and projected talent. Our proven talent is quite literally almost nonexistent. Our projected talent could be significantly more. Obviously, it remains to be seen how many DJ Moore's we get and how many TMJ's(not making this position specific, just giving examples of clear progression of careers and talent being realized versus not). This could be an exceptionally terrible, underwhelming, okay, fairly decent, surprisingly good, etc roster. All that has to play out on the field because our known entities in terms of above average caliber NFL players is paltry but most standards. All that digital bloviating to basically say, "Show me." As for Tepper, I genuinely don't think he has meddled that much less and I don't think he has stepped back. I think he just cleaned house of most of the people chirping about it internally while not making himself so publicly visible because he is very aware of the meme he has made himself and this franchise. IMO, he will continue to fug this franchise over because that is who he is as a person.
    • Glad im not watching...  guessing walker out too
    • Also Walker is a game time decision. He might not be able to play tonight.
