Today's "Oh You Thought The Lockout Was Almost Over? Well..." News

Wait...

More doom and gloom fellas:

It's good that it's a deal that either side is incredibly happy with. A fair deal is one that everyone generally doesn't like, and both feel like they've lost out. That's called compromise.

Right on. I just hope there isn't too many unhappy people on either side, that's my worry.

After all the back and forth of these negotiations, I'm just really pessimistic until it gets done.

Just like PFT (I know, I know, it's PFT) reported, this should be a no-brainer. The players elected De Smith, and should trust him to get the best deal possible for them. Trying to go against that now makes no sense.

The more I read and the more I watch... the more I fugging HATE NFL players in general. I have love for the Carolina Panthers, but the guys like Brees, Mawae, Jackson, etc...they can all tear an ACL for all I care. This is ridiculous. And I don't care 1 bit if that sounds like being a poor sport. I want my football, damnit, and these rich POS supermen want $10 instead of $8 million... well, I want a car without 148,000 miles on it. I want someone to buy my freaking townhouse so I can actually afford to live a little. Most of all, I want to be able to watch football in my very brief time away from work, and these SOB's are taking that from me. They can go to hell.

Said ECUPantherfan as he ran out of the room, tears streaming down his face.

Don't get this:

mortreport Chris Mortensen

RT @shimbomba: @mortreport we sill on for monday freeagency? >> If approved, negotiate w own FA, then looks like next Thursday for all

I thought the exclusive window started the day after the new CBA was ratified? Would fall in line with teams starting organized activities Monday b/c they'd have the weekend to negotiate with their own FAs...

He and Schefter have been reporting that the window to sign your own FA would begin on Monday, and FA would begin 72 hours after that. This weekend (if the deal is done) is going to be to let teams read over and understand the new CBA, FA rules, etc.

Just random muscle flexing before they agree to the deal. They want to look like the positives were due to actions and that they are not taking a deal just to be taking the deal. This thing is over, and by tonight, we will have a deal and a timetable.

pretty much...they came to agreements on all the major issues...and demaurice smith wouldn't be presenting a deal to the players if isn't wasn't a fair deal for them

NFLPA is starting to make me mad as hell. Seriously. The Deal is not going to get any better then what they have. They have almost everything they want. Both sides arent going to be happy because everybody isnt going to get what they want. If the NFLPA approve the Deal, it will get done. Because i dont see the owners turning the deal down because they get some of there money back.

If the NFLPA votes to an agreement Thursday the lockout will end. Trust me.

Yeah, the timing is horrible for a stupid comment like this. Three weeks ago, maybe, but the players are in no position at this point to be making demands. This is like being at a restaurant and eating 95% of your meal, then calling the waitress over to complain about the way it was cooked and threatening to send it back to the kitchen.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
