Cam's the kind of player that is going to get on the field in some situations, starter or not. He can develop into a solid player, but his accuracy and such make me think that right now he is not there yet. I would rather let him continue to grow and practice and take over mid season from Clausen when he's ready. Of course, if the coaches think he's ready at the start of the season, so be it.

Dude you keep mentioning Cam's Accuracy, when he's the one throwing darts 30, 40, 50 yards down field. I'm not sure what you're looking at, but I've been to two practices in Spartanburg, plus fan fest, and I'm not seeing what you're seeing. I'm not saying he doesn't need work, but he's more ready than Clausen.

So Jimmy is gonna beat out Cam, and we will then trade Newton. Some of you guys are seeing different video than I am.

A few reasons why Jimmy is not going to win this competition (ever):

  • Clausen's lack of arm strength does not allow him to throw long. A few rainbows are not evidence of NFL arm strength.
  • Clausen does not have good field vision. Maybe it's his height, maybe not, but he has not shown the ability to find open receivers down field (esp. Smith).
  • Cam is far more mobile than Jimmy.

I could go on and include things like leadership traits, but what's the point?

Make a case that Cam isn't ready and Jimmy gives us the best chance week one. That's fine, I can buy that. But JC is not the future in Carolina, and I doubt he will ever be a regular starter elsewhere. He just doesn't have the tools.

Look at it this way.

Jimmy Clausen starts the season for us, with the talent that is with him now, If Jimmy Can't produce, then ,ok, cut your losses. But if he does produce and generates decent numbers so other teams take notice. This only means Jimmy could be used a trade bait. Meaning the panthers could rape a team just like...The Eagles.

Look at the Eagles, they RAPED the Cardinals for a guy like Kolb. Kolb arguably had some really good Talent around him in Jackson, Maclin, Celek. The Cards still took a chance and gave away a good CB and a 2nd round pick for him.

We don't lose anything by doing this. Nothing, Cam gets to sit maybe 4-5 games tops. We see if Clausen can garner interest. Swindle a team into thinking he's worth say a player we might need at a certain position and a draft pick. Or just a high draft pick. At this point if we just get enough interest that they would only get a 2nd round pick for him, I say do it! Get that 2nd rounder back for the guy.

Thoughts?

Clausen looks like checkdown charlie to me in every video i've seen.

Only difference between what he brings under center and myself along with a few of my buddies in terms of ability is he has the Notre Dame education.

Doesn't look or throw downfield

Every video of him as a professional perhaps.

and lol at Jimmy ever having trade value. He would have to be nothing short of a probowler to have trade value after that historically bad season last year.

I think they need to make a choice soon. All signs point to cam and that is what I would like to see. With the shortened schedule if you think it's cam you need to give him all the reps you can and let the rest of the O know who the guy is going to be.

clausen might start week 1 of the preseason but cam will start week 1 of the regular season

Clausen definately starts preseason game 1 and likely 2. They probably want Cam to get a shot at some backups to build confidence first. Probably gets the start preseason 3 if things go according to plan.....and if he holds his own in that game I think Rivera goes ahead and calls him the starter.
