Mr. Smith Arrives

Interview with of Steve Smith at Wofford wish I could embed it but dosen't look like I can so here's the link. Basically the same things that were tweeted earlier except directly from Smiths mouth.

Says that he's ready to put his "old body" to work. He and Cam practiced together as recently as last Friday. Can't wait to hear reports from how everyone looks tomorrow on the field!

Thank god for Cam Newton. If it weren't for him Smitty would be gone IMO..

I think that is totally true. If Clausen was going to be the starter I think Smith would have left to go elsewhere. He believes what many of us do which is Newton may take some time to learn but he is going to be great down the line. As he said earlier, football players can look at another player and know if he has it or not. Newton has done all the right things including working out with Smitty on the QT.

The fact Smith and Newton have become buddies tell me a lot.

Newton is serious about being great.

Smitty doesn't reach out to just any rookie like that.

Im getting unrealistic expectations now...

It boils down to respect. Jimmy never got Smiths respect not even from day one and it only deteriorated as the season progressed. Jimmy got smaller and smaller in the locker room and in the spot light and Smith could run all over him as we saw last season. Say what you will about Cam but I guarantee that he won't be getting punked by Smith like Jimmy was last year. Nobody wants to play for a punk

    • I think the player matters a lot(in regards to price specifically). Parsons will likely end up being worth the price because he is unquestionably elite. Burns obviously hasn't been until this year because he isn't a consistently elite pass rusher. He is too easy to shut down with just a single blocker.  Guys like Parsons and Garrett that you have to plan your entire blocking scheme around make everyone on the defense better. Truth be told, that isn't Burns on his current line, it's Dexter Lawrence. But, as you pointed out, situations still matter. Joe Burrow may be a truly elite QB but that doesn't matter a lot when he can't stay healthy or the overall team isn't good. Ask Matt Stafford about that in Detroit.   The Panthers aren't in a position to be liquidating the extremely valuable draft picks we have. Our roster is still a bottom 5 overall NFL roster.
    • I don't hate KK. The Canes overpaid and he's enjoying the benefits.  Anyone who assumed he was going to turn into an excellent player based on what the Canes paid him weren't paying attention. Sure, I wish he was much more physical, he's a big guy, and that's really all I was hoping for when he came to Carolina. Danault is better in the FO circle, better defensively and better down the middle, but it's a moot point now.
