Panthers need to make move at CB

I think FA Justin Miller and former standout at Clemson should be picked up for a small deal at CB. Mark Jones takes up roster spot and all he esstentially can be used only as a returner....he isn't good enough to get time at WR w/ a healthy roster. I think most agree Miller would be a more explosive option as a returner and could compete for the Lucas' spot or simply provide depth and healthy competition at the #2 and #3 CB spots.

What say you?

*please note I'm not saying Miller should not be brought in as the replacement for Lucas.

Keep Mark Jones. Our other returners have yet to show much. He was a solid force on special teams. But other than that I have no argument in looking at other corners. I still think Lucas is a starter that just didn't have a great year.

in reality Jones is average at best....he just had the advantage of stepping in after some of the worst returners/ST units the league has seen the past few seasons. Which made his average appear better than what it was reality b/c he have been watching such crap the past two years. Tough to keep a guy if all he can do is be an average returner and not help in other ways. imo. I'm not willing to have Robinson or another unproven returner have the duties again this year. Miller is better than anyone we have at returns....and he can provide competition at a spot we need it.

With the blocking Jones had this year, I can easily think of 4 returns a good returner would have taken the distance. A kicker is Jones' worst nightmare.

Mark Jones is currently not a Panther nor on the roster. To sign Miller by cutting another player you would need to find another player to cut.

cut whoever is last on the depth chart at WR. A relatively unimportant position in the offense outside the #1 WR and #2 WR spots.

Do you think that what is stopping the Panthers from signing a CB is roster spots or money? Because right now the Panther can sign as many players as they can under the salary cap as they want to. It's not a matter of roster spots its a matter of cap space and right now the Panthers have less than a million. So by cutting Kenneth Moore who has a one year 200,000 contract probably won't allow them to sign a FA CB like Miller.

What do you Panther fans think of drafting Darius Butler out of Conneticut? Very underrated player in my opinion, short, but brings alot to the table, especially regarding vision

Unless we can move up or get a first round pick we dont have a shot at Darius Butler. He is very good and would love to have him. I predict he wont fall past the Steelers in round 1

Miller wouldn't be that expensive and they could easily make that kind of room.

Be careful how you speak of Mr. Jones. I had a simlar post to yours in another thread and found he has many fans around here. I still believe we've had such bad returners in the past we now accept avg. and love it.

Miller never plays corner so your argument for bringing him in over Jones is moot..

If we bump Wilson to nickel like most assume he could easily fill Wilson's old role and then be a special teams beast. Plus, he could simply be there to compete w/ the other guys and it doesn't appear we are going to have a sure #2 and nickel corner this next season.

    • He’s also playing with 2 top 5 pick pass rushers and getting some 1 on 1 looks. I’m pretty sure there was never a huge question about whether he could win some 1 on 1 pass rush reps. The main issue was consistent effort, being a complete liability against the run, and asking for more than he was worth. Trading him was the right move and still is, the biggest problem was not trading him when the best deal was on the table.
    • Bryce Young has come into camp three offseasons in a row looking completely the same as if he couldn't be bothered to enter the weight room and his fumbling issues have also carried over three seasons in a row. So I have no idea why anyone would expect not to see this subject of him going down with minimal contact eventually come up. Don't have to like it but that comes with the territory of being a #1 pick.
    • ? The dude stepped on his plant leg. We’ve seen him break plenty of hand swipes/arm tackles. I seem to remember one play his shirt getting pulled like a rubber band in the end zone. See, I was told up and down last week that these kinds of takes are fringe and rarely if ever happen…and when they do they are very unserious. Is it my fault for taking this seriously? Are the pies not people agreeing, but rather an inside joke? Let me know.
