Who is better than Steve Smith in his prime?

Just to strike conversation.... of all your years watching football what WR do you think was or is arguably better than Steve Smith in his prime?

Also be sure to factor sup par QB play and virtually no WR help for most of Smith's career.

The only one I could think of would maybe be Moss, just out of his shear prototypical talent.. But he doesn't have fire and heart of Steve Smith. Of course there is always Jerry Rice, but he also played with one of the greatest QB's of all time.

Hard to say since so much depends on how a player is utilized in his prime. Steve Smith at his best is a highlight reel, but I would be hardpressed to say that he is better than Jerry Rice. But Jerry Rice had an offense that was perfectly designed for what he did best.

Today, Larry Fitzgerald comes to mind as probably the best in the league.

As I've said a few times before. I'm a pretty old guy compared to most who post here. (I remember the NFL-AFL merger, remember when the Steelers were a laughing stock, and remember watching my first Super Bowl-Dallas vs. Baltimore-Colts). Okay, all that to say this I've never seen any WR with the heart and fire of Smitty. But then again I'm a homer.

Not going to say he's the greatest ever or anything, but in his prime he absolutely wreaked havoc on the NFL, defenses legitimately feared this man... How many 5ft 9 receivers can say they made such an impact?? One of a kind.

If anyone remembers that opener a few seasons ago vs. Houston (a loss). Smith made that amazing breakout when the (nearly) entire Texan "D" jumped on him after a catch. To me that's classic Smitty!

I still remember that play.

was so epic him just crouching and then bam..... hes out and running lol

I love Steve Smith but I would take these guys over Smith (if both WRs were in their prime)

Andre Johnson

Calvin Johnson

Randy Moss

Jerry Rice

but other than those 4 no one imo. Smith is still a Top 10 WR imo, he just needs a QB that can throw the ball near him.

You gotta remember, smith is 6 inches shorter than all those dudes at least. Imagine smitty was 6ft.3"! He would have been such a greater impact.

moss, fitz, calvin and andre come to mind. other than that, i'd rate smith 5th among active WR's each ranked in their "prime".

all time? heck, there are a number of them. of course that rice guy was the best of them all.

    • Yeah I think he's just talking continuity it's not really an endorsement. Also I would think CarolinaHuddle of all places would understand using "we" for the team you follow. I can't STAND when dorks do the "Oh so you play for them then? Hurr hurr"
    • Kon is a damn stud but it’s not any individual player’s team. All of the “big 3” are incredibly and equally important IMO. And LaMelo makes Kon way better (look at his shooting splits with LaMelo on the floor vs without. Also Moose and even Miles are important cogs. Honestly think we’re 1 piece away from being legit top contenders if the young guys continue to develop the next year or two. I trust this FO to be patient to find that piece within the next 2-3 years and not force anything. Plenty of time and even without adding anyone we have the pieces in place overall already to compete with any team.
    • We lost 2 very close and winnable games against top teams in the league while missing 3 critical players despite 2 of our top 3 players shooting unusually terribly. Still split the 4 games that Moose and Miles were suspended, winning the most important one vs the Hawks. This ain’t yo mama’s Hornets man. Hopefully Coby can go soon but even if not Moose and Miles are huge additions for our starting lineup and bench rotations. Schedule is pretty tough after these next 4 but I think we’ll take care of business the next 4 to get to .500 then finish slightly above .500 after that to get a 7 or 8 seed. Keep it rolling boys. Also Kon is having an insanely historic rookie season as a shooter. Like truly can’t believe my eyes watching this kid level of historic. Man what a fuging home run of a draft pick and exactly what this team needed to take that next step forward. He’s gonna shatter the rookie 3 point and franchise 3 point records. Has a real chance to be the 2nd best 3 point shooter ever or dare I say even get to Curry’s level (as a pure shooter, Curry obviously has way more to his game that has made him a GOAT).
