Panthers sign WR Legedu Naane

Oh, the irony!

Some of you need to stop intimating that Naane is more than he is. He is a cheap pick-up, near 28-year-old, journeyman back-up, slot receiver. He got all of 1 TD in 10 games last year, and a mere 371 yards. Naane adds tp our security blanket we're trying to weave for our young'nz (Cam Newton), and is here ONLY because of ties to our coaching staff. He isn't even a sure fire thing to make the final cut.

Get a grip! The guy got less yards in a damned good offense last year, with Phillip Rivers at the helm, than either Gettis or Lafell in an anemic offense led by Moore, Pickels and St. Pierre.

Stop trying to make a slice of Spam a damned 32 oz porterhouse steak because you had a can of potted meat last year!

not sure anyone is saying anything other than he is a solid player. no one is saying he is an all pro (porterhouse) or anything. all pretty reasonable expectations that he can come in and be legit competition for the #2 or #3 spot.

why did he get less yard last year? he played in less games for starters. he had hamstring problems for a few games. also, yes he played in a high power offense, but they also spread the ball around a lot more. they had 2 games last year that they had 6 people with receptions and that was the lowest number. the rest of the season they averaged 8 different receivers with receptions. meanwhile the panthers had an average of 6 different players with receptions per game. so, yes, more balls flying around in SD, but also more competition for targets.

no one is giving him the #2 or even #3 job, just stating that he's got enough talent to earn it over the other guys competing for it and considering his familiarity with the system he might have an advantage.

i wouldn't say this is a DA type signing, either. much more likely that they will use him regularly than DA will be. having just a 1 year deal probably has more to do with him getting in trouble off the field than an indictment of his play on the field.

Their opinion of why he was brought in is just as relevant as your opinion.....basically neither are worth poo.

None of us know anythign about why the staff are making the moves they are. To come out making statements about how you are right and everyone else is wrong makes you look like a bigger idiot than usual.

We will all need to see how this plays out.

We can connect the dots...

Chud worked with Legedu in San Diego

Chud worked with Olsen, Shockey in college

LaFell, Armanti, Gettis were picked by Hurney before Chud was in the picture.

Seems like a lot of people are missing the big picture in this thread. Hurney makes the draft picks, but Chud/Rivera plays who they want to play. Legedu could end up with a big role on this team.

Rivera on Naanee:

"One of the biggest things is we've had nobody step up other than Steve (Smith). We need to find guys that are going to step up and challenge for the (No. 2 receiver) position. This is a chance to get a guy who knows the system, understands the system and can show the young guys what it takes to be a pro."

doesn't sound good for Gettis and Lafell

I saw this coming. I still believe Gettis gets the number 2. I think Naanee ends up beating lafell for the slot.

Gettis worries the heck out of me just because he is 100% NOT a hands catcher. To be a longterm starter in this league you need to be able to catch balls in traffic, catch jump balls too. Maybe Gettis can learn the offense, run the routes, get open and catch, but there is reason to believe that the coaching staff just doesn't look for him to be the future long term. He just doesn't have that dynamic playmaking ability you need that will help out your QB. History is against him.

This year though... maybe Gettis is the guy.

    • I respect his enthusiasm. Time will tell if it's warrented.
    • Oh I went off and fully entertained my wife last night as my emails go to her phone as well because of my health. So she got the whole conversation as it happened.    Like I went to games in Detroit for the cup finals, I've been to games in Greensboro, Raleigh, and Chicago as well. My mom and her nurse friend double dated one of the players from when the team was in Greensboro. "He's still with the team in some compacity as well." I know people who work for the team at the arena as well. How the hell would I not be considered a fan. Only reason I haven't gone to a game since 2022 is because of my health and money situation. Last game I went to was at United Center in Chicago and me and my wife spent around 1k for glass seats and some food at the arena and we were next to the penalty box. The pictures of the hurricane players I took are lost because my phone crapped out a few weeks later.
    • The Falcons win was a fantastic way to end the season and I think just about every Panthers fan would agree the team the coaching staff and particularly Bryce Young were impressive. We really needed that. Credit where it's due. At the same time. Now we have to establish it wasn't just a flash in the pan. We had one of those earlier in the season against the Raiders. As a tortured Panthers fan I have to acknowledge that. I know you're joking but in all seriousness I don't think the QB sneak is something for us to be concerned about in general but I would be lying to myself if I did not acknowledge that looking back at one particular game last season where we continually trotted out Eddie Pinero on 4th and short on the opponents side of the field we could use some creativity in those situations and it's also a matter of predictability. As time goes on it's something for Canales to work on and figure out. Especially with our kicker situation as it stands.
