T.O

BIG JASON

Recommended Posts

I know they have Moss, but what if he went to NE.

That would probably be one of the only places that could contain him, and that team would just be plain wrong to defend.

Not saying he will or he should, but that is at least interesting to entertain.

I thought about that at lunch today. Even though he would undoubtedly play second fiddle to Moss and possibly Welker, I think New England could indeed contain T.O. and make him a happy man.

NE wouldn't pay him what he thinks he is worth

That's the thing: I don't think there's a single team that's going to shell out a large amount of money on T.O. So if he had to choose between a team like Oakland or a team like New England, who has a quarterback capable of getting him the ball, I think he would lean toward New England.

How much does he think hes worth, now that he has been kicked off yet another team, a team in which he was good friends with the OWNER.

he wasn't kicked off for disciplinary reasons; he was a cap casualty, part of a youth movement, and a move which shows the cowboys are going to focus more on the running game than passing.

they've got three very good running backs and a great passing on the run qb.

I though they took like a 9 mill hit because of the cut. What did they end up saving?

I posted this in the other TO thread so I'll post it here also, since people like multiple post on the same subject so much.

THE ANTI-T.O. LIST

Posted by Mike Florio on March 5, 2009, 11:17 a.m. EST

As we’re doing with Mike Vick, we’ll be keeping a running tally of all of the teams that have said ”thanks” followed immediately by “no thanks” to the possibility of signing receiver Terrell Owens.

Please note that this only reflects teams that already have said that they’re not interested:

The Dallas Cowboys. (Duh.)

The New York Giants.

The Washington Redskins.

The Baltimore Ravens.

The San Francisco 49ers.

The Minnesota Vikings.

The Atlanta Falcons.

The Cleveland Browns.

Here are the teams that likely will join the list soon:

The Philadelphia Eagles.

The Miami Dolphins.

How was he a cap casualty, when he cost them 9 million against the cap when he was cut.

I know he wasn't kicked off for disciplinary reasons, but the whole ordeal with Romo and Witten(and Garrett), even if it was blown out of proportion by the media, was a big part of that.

I think he didn't want to have any chance of that "circus" going along with his new stadium this year.

Plus the fans of the Cowboys we're actually tired of him(they went out and got fan reaction today), or at least perceived him as the problem. That is about ticket sales too.

i mean cash savings. he saved jerry 3.5 million in cold hard cash so i read. doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's the closest thing i can think of besides they really just want to become a running team.

that witten/romo/to thing was most likely ed werder just making stuff up. Like quite literally pulling stuff out of his ass. They did the same thing with the Chad Johnson: LOCKER ROOM CANCER thing two years ago.

jerry loves a circus.

think about all the smart cowboys fans you know.

the 30 mill was garunteed money that he got in his prior contract 8 or 9 months ago. They saved money for the 3 seasons after this one but the 09 season they'll take a 9 mill hit.

That still doesn't make it a cap move, because next year would be uncapped anyway(as of now), and I don't believe they are hurting in that aspect of their team.

Plus they have few picks in the draft anyway.

I know most Cowboy fans are stupid, but in their stupidity if they hate TO, coupled with the hard economic times you can see why he would not want him there if there is a possibility it would cost him some ticket sales.

I just don't think he wants that, because he would want him and the new stadium to be the dominant topic, not TO.

It's really easy to believe however exaggerated it may be though, because he has done this same kind of thing before.

Maybe they will try to run the ball, I mean Emmitt Smith had more to do with the dynasty in the 90's than did Irving.

COWBOYS WILL CARRY $9.675 MILLION IN T.O. DEAD MONEY

Posted by Mike Florio on March 5, 2009, 10:23 a.m.

The decision to cut receiver Terrell Owens means that the Dallas Cowboys will carry $9.675 million on the books in 2009 for a player (”the player”) who isn’t on the team.

We addressed a couple of weeks ago the potential cap consequences of cutting Owens. Here’s a quick summary.

Having Owens on the team would have cost $8.995 million in 2009 cap space, barring a conversion of his $3.1 million roster bonus into a guaranteed payment, which would have reduced that specific portion of the cap charge.

So, technically, cutting him requires the Cowboys to consume only $680,000 in additional cap space.

But the move saves $5.67 million in the cash that would have been paid to Owens this year, and it clears him off the books in the unlikely event that the salary cap remains in place for 2010.

I dont think TO's gonna make a big deal about salary wherever he goes. The media seems to downplay the fact the Cowgirls still owe him 30 mill guaranteed off the deal he signed 9 months ago. I dont think he's strapped for cash.

I agree I think he will come into wherever he is and make sure he is a good citizen. He knows he is on his last leg and whatever team gets him he will help. I think he still wants to win a ring and so that will keep him in check. I wouldnt mind signing him for the vet min and a 1 year contract.

    • And those targets are mostly going to TMac, who will be a part of the FUTURE of the team. Did it remove the most reliable WR and Bryce's safety blanket? Absolutely. But it's also allowing him to build better chemistry with TMac, Stephens, Horn, Evans, etc. I am pumped to see Coker back and hopefully they can reignite that connection.
    • It's the same thing that made Bryce the #1 overall pick. I've never seen such mass delusion about a football player before. Everyone convinced themselves that the fact that Bryce was below to severely below average in practically every physical attribute for an NFL QB just wouldn't matter because he has everything else you need and that'll more than make up for it. When has such an argument ever been made for an NFL prospect before? We watch prospects plummet every year because they run a couple tenths slower in the 40 time than expected. Smitty had everything you want in a receiver except he was 5'9" so he goes in the 3rd round. That's the way these things generally go. If you check a lot of boxes but leave some key ones unchecked you're not an elite prospect. With Bryce though, the physically limitations were always obvious so it gave more time to be able to build that into the equation and come up with reasons for why he'd be able to overcome it. Now we have all these same shortcomings having shone brightly on the NFL field and we STILL have people trying to convince themselves he'll be able to overcome it while ignoring that our past two wins and his improved play have come while riding the back of RB putting up GOAT RB production over the past two weeks. What changed wasn't Bryce. What changed is that Rico is playing out of his damn mind. Pretty much every NFL roster caliber QB can shine if he can get 200+ yards out of the RB behind him.
