2011 Surprise Team And Breakout Player

Recommended Posts

Surprise in NFC: The EAGLES don't make the playoffs.....hell I could be completely wrong but I betcha I'm the only person picking it.

I actually do have pretty solid reasoning. Although I am a big fan of watching Vick play, I could see him sustaining a major injury. While Kevin Kolb is a glorified Matty Moore, he could at least keep the ship upright until Vick returned. Vince young, on the other hand, is a nutcase and could easily destroy this team with so many superstars.

Surprise in AFC: The Colts don't make the playoffs. Manning has a bad year. The Jaguars win the AFC South.

We have been hearing the Lions will be the "surprise" team for about 5 years now. When do we draw the line and say they are "expected" to atleast have a winning season.

Surprise team = Rams

Surprise player = Tavaris Jackson

Until the Texans actually put up a winning season, they'll continue to be a surprise team.. the surprise is only transferred into "I'll believe it when I see it"..

Texans and Lions could both be surprise teams, for different (or the same) reasons..

yeah..totally

The Lions & Texans always seem to be the surprise picks recently

I'm gonna go with:

Player - Ryan Williams (Arizona / RB)

Team - Dallas

As much as I hate the Cowboys, their division is gonna be weak. I think the Giants are gonna have a major slump with Coughlin getting the ax at year's end and the Skins just flat out suck. I say they go 11-5 and win the division over the Iggles

Since I called the Chiefs making the playoffs and Jamaal Charles' monster season this time last year, I think it's appropriate that I started this thread.

Surprise Team: I had a tough time picking this one. A lot of the teams I expect to improve are in tough divisions (Panthers, Lions), so I don't expect them to slip into the playoffs like the Chiefs did last season. I ended up going with the Detroit Lions solely because I believe they are rising from the ashes and will be a tough team to beat this season.

Breakout Player: I could be a homer and say "CAM NEWTON!" or "DAVID GETTIS!", but I'm going to go with an underrated player who I truly think will shine. Matthew Stafford, QB of the Detroit Lions, will surprise everybody and will outplay his young companions Sam Bradford, Kevin Kolb, Cam Newton, The Golden Calf of Bristol, Colt McCoy, Mark Sanchez, and even Josh Freeman, who will also have a big season. The only thing that can stop Stafford is another injury.

What are your thoughts??

Two years in a row. F*ck yeah.

Surprise team- Cleveland Browns They have been building their team the right way, through the draft. Hillis is a beast and their schedule is quite favorable, save the Pittsburgh/Baltimore games.

Breakout player- Julio Jones Should have a very good year as he's already been named the #2 WR. With Gonzo and Turner both losing a step and Mike Smith has made it known he wants a "more explosive offense" I expect the Falcons to target Jones down field quite a bit this year.

Well, my prediction was a fail.:(
