Not encouraged in the lest bit?

After a solid week, I'm actually ecstatic as to how quickly our QB's have caught unto this new offense. (Given no OTA's, no playbooks, no nothing for a large portion of the summer)

Now come preseason game #3 , and we're still struggling, then yeah..

Edit -- Oh he's talking about the defense?

I think a ton of our d's starters were out....
that actually doesn't help. offense looked clumsy against essentially 2nd and 3rd stringers. can't imagine how bad it would look against a real first string defense allowed to hit.

they may have caught on pretty well, but i don't think they are at all ready to play against grown-ups.

first preseason game is going to be an eye opener and not in a good way, i'm afraid.

i hope i'm wrong, though. i'm going down tuesday to TC. maybe i'll feel better about it then.

jaysus- if we play a team that has had an actual " system" in place for a year or two and or an experienced hungry defense, we might be screwed

dont want to rain on our parade here but lets get real - were gonna be lucky to get 6 wins this year

hope Im wrong but dont think I am

i dont understand at all how people are saying clausen looked better than cam. clausen looks like a pee wee football player out there. if he has improved at all, its a very slight difference...jimmy cant throw deep to save his life, and im sorry, but im tired of seeing no passes over 20 yards...cam better start week 1..

...cause he did.

I thought Jimmy looked decent. He's built for the WCO. In general, I think his decision making skills are better than Cam's. Cam can make lots of plays that Jimmy can't however and it's not like Jimmy doesn't make mistakes. I'll say Jimmy has the edge now, but Cam should get the job pretty soon.

I look at it this way.... If the Panthers in the preseason look like their old selves where we can pound the rock at will, then I would rather have Clausen in there to keep the chains moving with checkdowns and smart plays. If we look like last year in the preseason, lets open it up and let Newton play. He will take more risks and throw the ball downfield more, but he will also likely turn the ball over a lot more as well. Its a pick your poison.

I would say we should try to let Clausen play so we can get something in return for him, but as far as QBs go, he makes little money at all, we might as well keep him as a solid backup as he develops.

Cam is clearly the future, but you have to ask when does that future start?

Honestly from watching that film, they both seem to make their fair share of mistakes. The question that needs to be asked is, are you willing to take the mistake from a gain of 10 feet away or 70 feet?

As I've stated before, one can be taught control but you can't teach confidence. When a sport is about quckness and timing, you're either confident that you can get the ball down field and do it or not.
