The reality of Clausen's good night

Cam's stats fall drastically short of how he played. Both those incompletes in the end zones could (and probably would) have gone for interference calls in the regular season. There were also several drops as well.

Clausen was wildly ineffective for most of the game and benefitted greatly from the run game and a great catch by Olsen. Anderson looked better than Clausen.

Jimmy's ball to Olsen was better than Cam's ball to either Olsen or Armanti

Cam benefited greatly from the screen game.

Cam only had 1 drop (possibly two if you count the bad ball to Clowney)

Both were bad.

Well if The Jimmy made bad throws and the receivers had to adjust, then you can say the same for Cam. Olsen had to turn around for the 10 yard pass instead of catching in stride. Edwards had to come back for the 30+ yarder, and Olsen had to lay out for his other big catch.

What's the point of your post? To clearly downplay one when you can easily do the same for the other?

Both of them got help, why the crying? Isn't it the receivers job to adjust and make a play just as much as it is the QBs job to get a catchable ball to the receiver?

He was making some good throws. He looked like he had poise.

Then, uh, why'd you bring up Newton's 1-game preseason stats?

Actually... Jimmy looked like Jimmy from last year. Newton looked like a rookie who's had three weeks to train with his team. No, neither one of them looked great.

And I thought you weren't debating JC vs. CN. thing anyhow.

I brought up Cam's stats to show how completely stupid all of you sound by trying to downplay the fact that Clausen had a night pretty equal to Cam's.

neither played great....but neither played bad.

There are a few that want to bash Cam no matter what (TRD). There are a few who want to bash Clausen no matter what (you).

I prefer to look at their performance objectively and say that both did some nice things during the game and both had their very shaky moments.

But, the Cam Homers who try and take an 8-19 game (44% completion...whichis terrible) and talk about how great he was. He was NOT great. He had flashes of great play and then looked like a rookie most of the time.

I gave both of them credit when they deserved it.

Cam on the drop by Armanti,

Clausen for using his eyes and pump fake to move the safety on the Olsen TD.

Other than that, neither deserved praise.

Clausen also scored a TD for the Giants too.

Derek freaking Anderson scored too, what's your freaking point. Did cam score? Nope. If he would have stepped into that throw to Armanti, hell yes he would have. He throws off his back foot so much it's not funny. The good thing is, he can work on that. Which is promising.

I stand by my statement, CLAUSEN haters will always hate him. It won't matter if he didn't throw a pick 6 or not. If you hate clausen, nothing will change your mind about the guy.

Nah, but what's the point in arguing it. Newton will be the starter, and the two guys you spend most of your time defending (Clausen and Moore) will be 3rd stringers on really bad teams.

You really just said I spend any time defending Clausen?

I hate Clausen more than any being on Earth. I can't stand anything he does in life, anything.

Just shows how crazy you Cam homers are.

First off... I had high hopes for Clausen last year. I watched some of highlights from ND, and saw some promise. I even went so far as to say some of the things he did there looked "a little like Tom Brady".

When he got the nod from Fox to start, I had a strong concern it was going to be a disaster, as the O-Line was blocking for poo, and cautioned that this could fug up Jimmy's career. Sadly, I believe this concern was manifest into reality.

When he got the go-ahead to start, I wasn't upset this past Saturday. Hell, if he starts the regular season game 1, I'd be fine with that too. (He won't though).

I'm not a "Clausen Hater". But what I am is objective. Stats tell stories... and they tell them accurately sometimes. Jimmy Clausen had happy feet last year, and played scared, and I saw more of that on Saturday. It tells me that his poor pocket awareness and non-reading coverage, and stare-lock habits are still there.

He did not have a "Great night". He did not "look good." And I'll be honest, Newton didn't either.

But given the situation of a lockout cutting the off-season WAY back, I'll just keep my eyes open and save final evaluation for later into the preseason.

Because... this is preseason you know... we could all be wrong and Jimmy and Cam could both just blow things up in the regular season.

I would not go to the point of saying neither looked good. I think they played OK...not spectacular.

Given a new offensive scheme....young QB's....2 weeks of practice....they actually looked better than I thought they would.

But I agree....I want to see pregessively better play in the preseason and hope that one clearly moves to the front.
