NFLN made interesting point on Cam

Point remains, if Carolina goes 4-wide are you going to put in a dime defense and pray Cam doesn't take off running?

DE contain and a LB spy would help, DE's on the outside and the LB waiting if Cam goes on the inside. I dunno, there are ways to keep the QB from running about.

Either way, Cam adds another thing defenses after to consider when calling plays now when he starts. It's something we've never really had I don't think, will be nice to see some actual scrambling.

I believe I saw Jake do it once and Jimmy got sacked or took a hit throwing the ball away. :\

but then you are not pressuring the QB.....and the game today is set up for WRs to win their battles with time.

I think Cam would've benefited from better QB coaching at the college/JUCO level. It seems IMO that they found out he could run and they neglected the QB instruction that he's getting now. I guess it was just due to the fact that they could win without improving him as a player.

I am excited to see what he can become now that coaches are focusing on making him a better QB!

only reasoning Vick is good now is b/c Reid > Mora Jr.....by a large margin. Totally different schemes, weapons.....and he is being used different. Vick himself isn't drastically different.

Vick is totally different! If you saw his interview that aired sometime last year, he said he actually watches tape now, and gets into the playbook. He admitted before it was all playground style (using his athletic ability alone.) Now that he is watching tape he understands where the defense is and where they are going, and how to throw the ball to the open receiver. I think something came out about Roddy White as well, before when he and Vick were together he wasn't into the playbook either.

So does that mean Cam has to go to prison to master the art of being accurate?

Seriously thou, can some of u folks actually see a man pass the color of his skin? What's with the constant comparison to only black QBs.

Anyway, Cam isn't The Golden Calf of Bristol. His whatever accuracy issues can be fix with time and patience.

Don't even go there buddy, facts are facts. Cam Newton pales in comparison as a pocket passer (statistically) to the other QBs drafted behind him in the draft. The reason he went ahead was because of his running/agility/playmaking ability... whatever you want to call it. The last person to be drafted #1 with the same resume was Mike Vick. They happen to both be black. You brought it up, not me.

words are just that.....words. I don't put much into athletes talking. Too much around Vick changed.....and the odds to greatly favor THAT being the biggest reason for his improved play. That doesn't mean Vick isn't doing some thing differently.....but you don't spend that many years in this league, go to jail.....and then transform your game. He is simply put in a better position to succeed.

I mean do you expect Smitty to be a good boy all season long like he states at the start of every year in great interviews.....or do you expect him to just be Steve Smith?

Check out real sports... Vick will tell you he is a completely different QB today because he developed his mechanics and accuracy. Before he relied on his agility much more than he does today.

There are two valid comparisons I see to Newton--Vick and Roethlisberger. Vick because he's fast, and Ben because he can keep a play alive with his feet and shake off the first hit. Neither has anything to do with skin color.

While I love the idea in the OP, I would be more than happy if they spend Newton's entire rookie year getting the fundamentals down to the point where they're reflex, and THEN turning the running game loose. He needs to be respected as a big, aware pocket passer before anyone will ever fear him as a real running threat.

If Big Ben and Vick had a baby.. that baby would be Cam Newton.

again, athletes say all kinds of stuff. I acknowledge he is doing some things different.

but the better offensive minded coach, better weapons, new scheme for NFL teams having to figure out a unique QB like Vick in it (old blue print applied to the Mora offense/weapons).......were bigger factors than Vick's claim for the success. imo.

People are trying to say Vick is now defined by a handful of games.....I say wait and as teams get use to him in this new enviroment the same old guy will really appear.

That ain't a knock. Mora Jr was an idiot. The same old Vick in the right hands is good enough to win....possibly it all.

I think what worries me the most is the throng of people saying Newton one-hops so many passes and has bad footwork. I know he's a work-in-progress. I know. But you want to see your #1 overall pick show improvement in those ways. Hopefully he does, but for some reason I'm just feeling bad mojo about Friday.

This is how I pretty much feel. ATL's coaching and situation isnt as good as Philly's and that has the biggest impact on Vick today. Dudes act like Vick didnt have 3 and 4 TD passing games in ATL, he just didnt do it consistently because of the scheme and talent around him. The dude was a 3 time pro bowler before he went to jail and played in an NFCG (farther than he's gone with Philly at this point) but people still act like he wasnt talented or didnt display that talent frequently til he got out.
