6/19 75 yards....

I'll buy that.

And, everything you are saying still supports my opinion that he likely WILL end up being very good. Just that he is not ready now.

Work on his mechanics and let him start when he is ready.

I agree with one caveat. Unlike Aaron Rodgers we don't have a Brett Favre to start. I suspect fans and players alike would rather struggle with newton than deal with Clausen and Anderson at this point. And as much as people say coaches and owners shouldn't worry about the fans, Richardson is doing everything he can to win back the fans and redeem himself for last year. At this point there are advantages to starting newton but no real disadvantages. He needs the reps a starter gets which is 3 times as much in practice as a backup.

If I am an opposing coach, I send the house on every play until the Panthers show they can handle it.

So where were the screens and quick outs last night? I had a bad feed and may have missed some, but to me, that game plan last night (and against Miami as well) was not rookie QB friendly.

The question is why? Why was the game plan so much more vanilla last night than in the first preseason game? I would really like to know.

And by the way, Zod, if you think throwing Beason in there is going to magically transform the defense we saw last night, I want some of what you are smoking.

It seems obvious to me that there was another reason for the plays called than trying to play the best game to beat the Bengals.

If this had been a real game do you think they would really not call or throw a single slant pattern? Or no screens against the blitz? Or no realistic use of the running game? Or an entire half with Cam not even looking at the TEs?

People calling for andrew luck after 7 quarters make me sick. He's completed 30% of his passes. Come on, we still have yet to see the kid with his complete offensive line. This team were seeing is not the final product. The defense was missing alot of starters, and there will surely be wavier pick ups. Relax, i exspect there will be a completely diffrent game plan when the season starts. Notice the lack of high percentage pass plays. No screens, slants or dump offs. We will see a lot more stew and d-lo.

Exactly what we were talking about in chat last night.

I kind of felt the same way. My concern is that we're trying to do too much, because like you eluded to, we didn't run any plays that previously have worked.

So you know for sure how good of a pro Luck is going to be? You should be a professional scout. Ask the chargers how good Ryan Leaf was going to be...what about David Carr...Danny Worful...Tim Couch...Matt Leinart...Joey Harrington...Akili Smith...Art Schlichter...etc....

Don't support your argument by stating what Luck might do in the future...all the while criticizing the play of a rookie QB with 7 quarters of experience .

I didnt say anything that wasnt true. Please go look at Luck's tape and watch his feet. Then compare it to Cam. its not even close. Its might be the same thing everyone was talking about with Locker before the draft. Locker also had bad footwork so that affected his accuracy. however, even when you were watching cams work out videos he wasn't hitting his receivers right in the numbers. meanwhile, luck has much better accuracy. In all honestly it would take much to have better accuracy than cam now. Look I obviously how Cam gets it figured out and has a great career as a panther. But now I dont see any reason for him to start and reenforce bad habits. make him a back up and spend all day working with him on footwork and accuracy.

That's why I think he's gonna end up starting the season regardless of what anyone of us say or think... Can't remember where it was, but I think it was on one of the videos from the PanthersTV channel on the official site, maybe last week... But in the video, Rivera said the thing about Cam that encourages them most is that they see improvement in his footwork and mechanics every week and Shula has spent a lot of time on it with him.

So, if they see these as being his weaknesses just as we do, they're most likely starting him anyway.

yep, agreed. As for Zod's contention starting Cam might ruin his career. I don't think you'll see the David Carr syndrome where he's crushed 10 times a game. Cam was a man amongst boys when he was scrambling last night. Repetitions, game experience ans 1st string practices. Sit cam 2 years? Hell, he'll be a free agent in 4!

the thing is..and its probably why he's gonna start..we're DA or Jimmy might check down on 3rd and 20..Cam can scramble for 21 and pick up the first. guys are just gonna have to enjoy the dynamic plays he makes this year and not get so pissed off when his stats aren't there. do you really think we are going to pass this much anyway? it's preseason. it's the best time to get him live passing reps without it meaning sh@!, except to the manic depressive fanbase we have.

nothing could save David Carr's career, not even Andre Johnson..the gloves don't lie, he never had the will to be a great player.

    • Im not angry. Im disappointed. I want to win. Anyone who has watched Bryce play the last 3 years and thinks that this team has in any way seriously addressed the glaring deficiencies in our QB room is deluding themselves. It's been explained ad nauseum how our FO has protected Bryce from feeling even slightly challenged or pressured. A GM without an interfering owner would have brought in another QB to at least give the team a better chance at winning. We just gave an extension to a QB that only got 3k yards on the last play of his 16th game of the year. Indy admitted AR wasn't good enough by bringing in Jones to compete for the starting role. Tennessee drafted Ward to replace Levis. Stroud hasn't repeated his 1st year and Mills' performance was decent when he filled in after Stroud's injury and some were calling for him to remain starter. His future there is still in question even with a 5th year. We should have done the same, especially given that Bryce was benched.  Bringing in Grier is just another glaring billboard pronouncing the obvious. Dave Tepper still has his hands in the daily operations of this team. He controls the QB room because Bryce was his pick. Until Tepper finally admits that Bryce has barely lived up to the standards of a NFL Qb, we're going to spend our days reminiscing of when we were mediocre and finished 9-7.  It's just discouraging. We'll address every position on the field except the one with a glaringly obvious shortcoming. I had hoped Tepper really had backed off. Bryce's 5th year, Dalton's 2 year contract then trade, Kenny Pickett, Will Grier, Jack Plummer, and  Hendon Hooker say otherwise. It already feels like it's going to be a hard year of Panthers football to watch.
