Brandon Tate May Be Odd Man Out in New England

I don't see how you can honestly say that Brandon Tate isn't an immediate upgrade to either Pilares, who is a rookie with a month of practice in the NFL, while recovering from a knee surgery, or a guy who missed all of last season, and is most likely practice squad bound.

I'm not saying I think the dude is going to come out and dominate (he may), but, with the loss of David Gettis, we lost that down the field threat. Let's be honest with ourselves, Steve Smith isn't what he used to be, he's definitely not beating any of the better CBs down the field anymore.

Brandon Tate has two years in a vertical passing system, similar to what we will be running, and has the experience of learning from Tom Brady, one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play in the NFL.

I think for a cheap option, we would be crazy to not give him at least a look.

I would give the edge to Martin because of special teams play. Even though he was a walking yellow flag last week, he is going to give we way more covering kicks and punts than Tate.

But I do remember his time at Carolina and seeing the potential. For some reason he just hasn't panned out.

I'd rather pick up a vet if we were going to look to add a receiver. The veteran wide-out is just another guy teaching, as oppose to with Tate, just another guy you have to teach.
