Official Panthers/Steelers Tailgate Thread

Steelers come to town Thursday night. Last preseason game. The Huddle will again provide the only free tailgate in town to any and all that show up.

The Huddle has been fortunate to have generous sponsors every game to provide free food and non-alcoholic drinks to everyone that shows up. In return the people that partake leave a donation that, because of the sponsors, 100% goes towards a year end bike donation to Toys for Tots. We’re talking upwards of $20,000 and 600 bikes to date have been donated to the Marine Corps Reserve during this time.

This week’s sponsor is Carolina Dental. Please PM him with any questions you may have about any and all your dental needs.

This week’s fare will be burgers and dogs with all the trim. Assorted sodas and waters will be available. Here’s the usual info:

Where: We are located at the intersection of 3rd st. and Poplar. We are located in a large parking lot that borders 3rd, Poplar, and Church st. congregating at 3rd and poplar. Look for the carolinahuddle.com banners, tents, and loud music. The lot is across 3rd street from Picasso's restaurant and bar.

What: Food, music, drinks (non-alcoholic) and friendly Panthers fans. Shade to beat the heat. If you drink alcohol you have to bring it yourself and provide your own cooler because its hard enough to keep our own drinks cold on summer days.

When: We’ll start at 3pm this week. Maybe earlier. Food will be over at 7:30pm.

Who: Around 50 fans all somehow connected to this website.

How much: The parking lot is $25 to park there but you don’t have to park in the lot to tailgate with us. Many take the light rail for a few dollars and walk down or park a few blocks back for cheaper and just walk up.

When you show up and partake, please donate as much as you can to our cause. It’s a labor of love for us, but at the end of the day don’t discount what you saved by not bringing your grill, food, drinks, etc. and what it would cost you for a day of tailgating, shopping, and energy cooking. Remember 100% of your donation goes to charity. Hard to find many others that claim that nowadays. A burger in the stadium is $6 or so and its a frozen patty.

Disclaimer: There will probably be loud music. The Huddle does not police adult behavior at tailgates so while kids have a blast at tailgates, we can’t be responsible for what they may see or hear during the time. Remember if you drink alcohol you’re responsible for bringing your own and keeping it cool.

Any other questions this is the thread to ask.

I will be at the beach this weekend sans hurricane.

Probably will be the only tailgate I miss this year....plus I think this is a good thing b/c I have a strong feeling I would end up punching a Steelers fan

Also the word rapist would most likely be used very frequently so probably better that I do not go.

You guys have fun!! Go Panthers!

Don't forget to change the church sign before you leave town.

    • We had a QB who could do that and its the last time we went to the Super Bowl and the only time we had an MVP. Once he lost his ability to do that he was out of the league. To filter out insignificant stats I will only look at QBs who have played in 10 or more games this year. There are 28 qualifying QBs. Bryce is 25th in Air Yards per Attempt at 6.4. Only Joe Flacco, Cam Ward, and Dillon Gabriel are worse (6.0, 5.8, 5.1). Trevor Lawrence, Patrick Mahomes, and CJ Stroud are the median QBs at 7.1. Drake Maye and Sam Darnold lead the league at 8.7. Bryce is 18th in the league for passes that travel 30+ yards at 12. The median is Caleb Williams at 15. The league leader is Matthew Stafford with 26. With passes that travel 40+ yards, Bryce is tied with three others at 21st in the league with 3. Only Jacoby Brissett, Cam Ward, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel are worse. The median is a three-way tie with Drake Maye, Trevor Lawrence, and Baker Mayfield with 6. The league leader is Sam Darnold with 12. Having the ability to complete passes down the field (not YAC) stretches the defense and makes them account for more ground. It keeps players out of the box and keeps formations in nickel or dime, less line backers for your RBs to worry about. Bryce is why we have 2 losses against the Saints. If he had the outright ability to sling the football down field we beat the easily, but he doesn't. So they crowded the box and our 2 starting caliber RBs with our top ~10 Oline couldn't carry the offense to a win on their own. The limitations of the offense fall squarely on Bryce.
    • Bryce’s deep passes are intermediate passes for other strong armed QBs. I will say that Bryce’s accuracy on his deep passes have improved. Before they would just sail out of bounds. Now the WR actually has a fighting chance on the ball.
