Why The Panthers Are Quiet During FA

A league source with access to the numbers said the Panthers have a whopping $24,042 worth of cap room, last in the league.

So not only can they not sign any free agents until they clear some room, but they couldn't even buy a full-size car with what they've got left. Then again, if they've got it in cash, they might be able to buy General Motors, but that's another topic altogether.

If we do poorly this year after sitting on our haunches and not clearing any cap room, I will f'ing despise people that will STILL defend Fox and Hurney here. I will despise you.

Do tell me sweet cakes who would make an impact here in FA?

I will never say FOX is the best in the league, but he is pretty damn good.

Hurney, gets way too much blame and never enough credit.

But please, tell me, who do you want signed ?

Real problem now... If we DO do something with Peppers, how are we going to use up 17 million between FA and drafts?

Wouldn't take long.

I would rather sit on it, extend a couple of our guys coming up (T.Davis) and have a nice bag of capspace waiting for 2010.

Oh and you DON'T have to use up all your cap space to be a competitive team either. I think you need to save a bit of room for injury replacements as well.

What are you saying!

We should bring in everyone and offer them as much as possible!

Having a plan in FA is crazy talk!!!!

IF WE HAD THE SPACE, i would like to see any OG or OT signed.. no big names, just a cheap O-lineman for depth.. maybe Orlando Pace for a 1-2 year deal.. he cant possibly think of starting at his age, right?

or some depth at DT, DE or CB:

DT Dewayne Robertosn, DT Anthony Weaver

DE Michael Montgomery, DE Kalimba Edwards

CB Joselio Hanson, CB Chris Johnson

just to name a few..

Survey says...the same people who whine about that will be the first ones to whine when those guys turned out to be not worth the huge $$. :D

None of these guys have been signed so nothing has been missed.

Pace won't be a backup IMO.

Until we trade/cut Lucas we don't need a CB

Robertson is waiting on us I think, or he is so bashed up its a waste.

The type of people you are talking about is exactly the type of FA's we WILL eventually sign.

It has worked for us in the past and will again.

    • i wouldn't say that yet. I also wouldn't say he's done anything that makes me think he's particularly good. i think that's about right for compensation both ways for thielen considering the state of the vikings and Panthers.  The weirdest thing is that technically the panthers should be adding veteran salary cap right now; they have a high cost first overall qb on a rookie contract; that's the best advantage in the NFL in this day and age. It hasn't worked out because, well, the qb they drafted isn't good and they've ignored other parts of the team to try to bolster him.  so what's morgan really supposed to do? Are they tanking with a rookie qb in year three that the owner probably personally wanted drafted? Are they actually trying to win games this year with 80 career catches between their top three receivers? The defense is probably going to be terrible. What kind of jump are people actually expecting from Coker, Bryce, XL, and performance from a rookie to overcome that? It's not realistic.  At the end of the day I don't think Thielen wanted to end his career here and I don't blame him. Minnesota is going to compete this year and Carolina isn't. I also think this is to toss Bryce to the wolves and be done with him one way or another. There's no way this works. This is not a move you make if you're trying to win football games.
    • If he helps them win a super bowl the individual award is irrelevant.
    • Love the way Duke came out and dominated Elon in the second half. Did not love the way they played at all in the first half. Got a lot of missed tackles on film for this week and the next game's not gonna be easy at all.
