INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Jim Tressel is heading to the NFL.

The disgraced Ohio State head coach was hired Friday by the Indianapolis Colts as a game-day consultant to help determine when the team should challenge plays. Coach Jim Caldwell said it was a position he's wanted to fill for the past couple of years

Wonder if Goodell will suspend him for the first 5 games of the season for what he did to the OSU program?

Jim Tressel won't begin his tenure as replay-game consultant with the Indianapolis Colts until the seventh game of the regular season.

Colts vice chairman Bill Polian said the move came at the former Ohio State coach's suggestion after discussions over the weekend.

"In addition, we had a conversation with league officials to apprise them of the details of Coach Tressel's employment and the issues we were reviewing," Polian said Monday morning in a statement.

Polian said questions surfaced after the announcement of Tressel's hiring "with respect to the equity of his appointment as opposed to suspensions being served this season by present and former Ohio State players."

Tressel was hired Friday by the Colts as a game-day consultant to help determine when the team should challenge plays.

"We have informed the league office of our decision and expect that they will be supportive of it," Polian said in the news release. " We are very happy Coach Tressel will be joining us."

Coach Jim Caldwell said Friday Tressel's new role was a position he's wanted to fill for the past couple of years.

Tressel had been actively seeking employment after resigning from Ohio State on May 30 amid a damaging NCAA scandal. He had been seen at practices in Cleveland and Indianapolis recently and attended the Colts' preseason finale Thursday in Cincinnati.

But his job with the Colts, Caldwell said, will be limited exclusively to working game days from the coaches' booth.

I imagine this is in direct response to Pryor filing his appeal yesterday over his 5 game suspension.

    • I was assuming Blackshear was gone anyway. Or at least PS.
    • I literally read this 15 minutes ago, but it sums up my feelings perfectly. FYI, the article was about 3 players on the bubble. The author's opinion seems to be Horn is a lock and Renfrow and Moore are fighting for that last spot. David Moore, WR The Panthers' wide receiver room is crowded. There aren't many available spots, at least from the outside looking in. That raises the stakes considerably for those further down the pecking order fighting for recognition. David Moore is among them. The former seventh-round selection is a trusted ally of Dave Canales from three separate NFL stops. He's a solid if not spectacular player, although he underwhelmed when tasked with significant responsibilities during the previous campaign. Moore is battling it out for the sixth wideout spot alongside Hunter Renfrow, Kobe Hudson, and Jacolby George. It could go either way, but Canales' faith and his ability to impact special teams might be enough to get a reprieve."
    • Until LaMelo is traded, this is an unserious organization anyway. There's an insane lack of talent, and the talent all comes with baggage and injury concerns.  I assume the OP was about passing on Ace...but he's exactly the type of prospect doomed to bust here and compound on to the problems with all of his rumored sketchiness.
