CC is spot on.

We didn't just get a fantastic, Heisman winning, National Championship winning QB, we got something exponentially better. Cam Newton is going to rewrite the NFL record books. No one foresaw this kid being this good. Cam Newton will be mentioned in the same sentence with guys like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers. Its not a matter of "if", its when.

He already has

Merril Hoge has always been a retard guys. He hates QB's that are athletic for some odd reason, never mind that they still understand the game at a conceptual level... if they're athletic they must be dumb right? My Titans friend friend hated him for talking poo about Young too. Say what you want, but VY can play, he just had emo problems. Hoge really isn't a guy who's opinion I care about.

Well I too don't give a rats ass what hodge thinks. But I find it hard to listen to him knowing he wasn't anything special as a running back and him derterming whether all these quarterbacks has what it takes. How the hell would he know what it takes. First of all if he wants to break down running formations and all the halfback duties that's fine. Because he is well acclimated to the ins and outs of that position. But what gives him the expert ability to inform others of his idiotic oppinion. But other than that I couldnt care less what that putz has to say

I tell you what, Merrill Hodge will be eating some awful tasting crow if somehow Cam has another huge game and the Panthers knock off the Packers this Sunday. Talk about a sweet win ... maan. Beating the Super Bowl champs in the home opener would be awesome. :D

I'm sure Cam and the rest of the team will be working hard this week to try to pull it off. After watching Cam beat Alabama last year ... believe me anything is possible when he's on the field. We'll need the fans to make lots of noise to help the team out!

The truth is that Hodge hates unconventional QB play. He is fairly across the board in that respect. He thinks the position should be played entirely, 100%, in the pocket and that any deviation from that format means you're not a "traditional" QB and thus are somehow less effective or "true" than examples like Manning and Brady. He destroys The Golden Calf of Bristol for the exact same reasons. He notoriously called him out prior to preseason when everybody and their brother was saying, "you HAVE to start The Golden Calf of Bristol this year if you're John Fox", and he was right on the money in pointing out the issues that derailed the "The Golden Calf of Bristol Thing".

Is he right in this case? I highly doubt it. However, if you're a betting man and you want to predict success for QB's, looking at how conventional of a pocket passer they are is as good of an indication as any if success is to follow. The players like McNair, Vick, Roethlisberger are the exceptions not the rule.

Could our Cam be on that list of exceptions soon? He certainly could. However, one game is not enough, no matter how great it was, to squash all criticism. Let Cam keep being Cam and we'll see where he takes us.

Well, so far, Cam has been nothing but a pocket passer. He has cited guys like Brady and Manning as his role models from the beginning, so it's pretty clear that being an effective pocket passer is his #1 goal.

Make no mistake though, Cam will break off some long runs this season.

Can y'all imagine....if we somehow, someway....by some miracle, pull it off?.........

    • Dalton is ancient by NFL standards. Howell is only 25.  Howell's only year as a starter he put up almost 4k yards, 21/21 with a 43.2 QBR while being sacked 65 times.  This past year and the 3rd starting, which many would consider to be Bryce's best, he barely put up 3k yards 23/11 with a QBR of 47.6 while being sacked 27 times.  Pickett 4 years in the league, with 27 starts, he's amassed 4900 yards, 16/16 with a 53.6 QBR.  Now if Bryce were injured for a season, which QB would you say has more potential to step in and run an offense? I'd say Howell only because in a single season he threw for 1k yards less, more tds and granted more ints in 11 less games as a starter than Pickett's whole career.  Everyone is saying Pickett sucks, Howell sucks, but what I'm seeing is Bryce is right on par with them. Howell is on his 5th team, so is KP, yet Bryce just got a 5th year extension putting up pretty much similar numbers. The bar for QB on this organization is really low.  Did I want Howell? I didn't care. I wanted someone, anyone, who can potentially be better than what we've had the past 3 years or who we signed as a backup. We do not have even a mid tier NFL QB on the roster right now.  If Howell was brought in as camp fodder and didn't make the cut, wouldn't hurt my feelings at all. If we bring in another QB via the draft, I hope it's someone who could have the potential to be a starting QB with some development because that's the whole point.  We can't be afraid to bring in anyone who might have the potential to unseat Bryce or take his job if he's injured. The goal is to get winning seasons and make SB runs with hopefully a victory or 2. Pickett doesn't accomplish that. Dalton hasn't been able to even be in consideration for that role in over 2 years.
    • Next 2, Brooklyn and Philly are must wins that we should have no problems winning. Other 2 are Knicks and Celtics in Charlotte, split those. I think that 5 of 6 is very doable. And probably will be necessary for our pursuit of a 6-8 seed. Hawks keep rolling sadly but at least Miami and Orlando finally slipping up after they both had long winning streaks like Atlanta. 76ers obviously in a free fall
