So when should Hurney start talking to Bus Cook about a contract extension

we can't even negotiate until after year 3, that is the law of the new CBA.
yep.

we'll get it done, tho. just as long as we don't do what some geniuses have done and say we should lose out.

that is the exact kind of thing that will cause a guy who wants to win to want to go elsewhere.

if a star player can't win then he'll want to go somewhere that he can. if the team wants loyalty from cam, they have to do their best to surround him with talent that will help him reach his goals. otherwise you get a lebron james situation.

Tell me this...

Can he make more $ here than he can anywhere else by way of a contract?

yes. this is a team that has shown it's willing to part with some serious cash to keep the guys they want, but they can't make them stay.

if we can't get a team that wins on a regular basis and that can play at or near his level, then i honestly can't blame the guy for wanting to walk if he does. i just hope it never comes to that and that we do right by the guy and give him a talented roster on both sides of the ball.

Is that true? That is not good if true. If we have to wait that long he can just wait to go wherever he wants at that time and he'll only be 25.

So many of you were so thrilled that we were only able to sign him to a 4 year deal.... you're gonna be sorry about that. I'll pull up the posts if need be.

If he really wanted to leave he would, regardless of whether we were able to negotiate after his first year or his third.

btw...we need to forget about this idea of predominantly building through the draft. we've got the core...now we need to just fill in the holes with solid talent.

draft is where it's at.. we are not set, not even close. we need depth everywhere and we need to start thinking about replacing some core players.

but to be fair, FA and Draft need utilized.

this was my main point. we need to be taking advantage of FA and trades more. draft doesn't need to be the main place we go to get players. needs to be equal balance between the three methods. we can get some decent players in later rounds, but we could trade those picks and get better talent.

supposedly we have a 6th round pick on the table out there for aaron curry. this is a better way of using picks than sitting and hoping that some random guy we pick up in the 6th round might fit what we are doing here if he shows he can play at all.
