Steve Young calls Steve Smith the best WR in football.

They were discussing Calvin Johnson. Trey Wingo asks Steve if Calvin is best WR in the game, and Young's response is:

"Well, you got a lot of great guys out there. Steve Smith, he's a guy who I have always felt was the best, he hasn't had a QB the past two years, and now that he does, he's proving that now"

Cool. Smitty is no doubt one of the best in the game. I always giggled at the people who tried to pin his lack of recent success on him. The guy isn't just fast, if you watch closely, you just marvel at complete of a package he is. You could make the argument he is the best!

I said Steve Smith was a top 5 WR last year and even went as far as to say I'd take him straight up over in WR in the league other than Fitz and this board literally acted like I was a complete crackhead.

Anyone that watches the game of football, knows that he is one of the greatest players pound for pound to ever play the game. Period. He has never had a quality QB throwing him the ball. He deserves every moment of this and I'm glad he stuck it out and stayed in Carolina.

Lb for lb, the toughest nfl player in the league.

One of the best receivers in the game.

Heart of a lion.

There is no quit in steve smith.

And people wondered if him and cam would get along.

I think we should personally thank cam, cause he's going to extend steve smith's career.

if smith were on the pats and in welkers position smith would own every record in the books already, without a question. welker is great but smith is a bit faster, tougher, quicker and he makes those freak circus catch and runs that welker isnt known for.

The only thing Welker has going for him is that he runs a good crossing route. He need a good supporting cast to be good. Steve Smith is his own supporting cast.

With that said I look for the Panthers to #1 get Gettis healthy and let him take the tops off defenses while Smith carves them up. Or 2 draft a WR very early next year that can take the top off defenses and frees Smith up.

Pound for pound he's the best I guess but this isn't boxing and every receiver is in the same weight class, so that's a useless stat :p

I'd put him in the top 4, with Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, Steve Smith, Larry Fitzgerald. After those the next tier would be Vincent Jackson, Greg Jennings, Wes Welker, Brandon Marshall, and Dez Bryant

your right, if steve smith was as big as those other top receivers, he wouldn't be any better.lol

I don't understand your point. Steve Smith isn't as big as those guys. And those guys aren't as quick as Smith, so you might as well say "Imagine how good Fitzgerald would be if he was as quick as Steve Smith" since it's just as irrelevant.

"If everyone was different than they are they wouldn't be the same!!"

my original point, that you missed,

Is lb for lb, he is the toughest nfl player.

I didn't say best receiver. Maybe othere did, but i didn't

I also can't agree that those other guys arn't as fast as steve smith.

If not faster.

Steve smith is the ultimate competitor. Heart of a lion.

Could you imagine for a moment, what a 6'4 220lb receiver with smith's strength, toughness, and heart would be like?

That would be an absolute monster.

Anyways..back to reality.

Lb for lb...toughest son of a bitch in the league.

I'll take that.

First, MAYBE those guys are as fast, but I said as QUICK. They don't have nearly Smith's agility and burst.

Second, while you might be right about him being "Lb for lb the toughest nfl player" that's an even less worthwhile stat, because being larger doesn't make you tougher. It might make you stronger, but does not affect toughness. IMO he's the toughest wide receiver in the NFL, but that has nothing to do with his size.

EDIT: To make it clearer, saying he's pound for pound the toughest is like saying you're pound for pound the best chess player. It's not relevant.

has everything to do with his mind set.

As far as agility, there are several others are are agile.

Burst...that's debatable, but the fact that his legs are shorter actually help him in and out his cuts faster, and his burst.

Yea, an argument could be made, but man, Megatron is is sensational.

A little off point, but Johnson, along with Suh, Stafford and all the other young talent on that team are going to win a superbowl pretty soon I think. I actually see a few similarities between Detroit and Carolina, although thankfully we haven't suffered near as long as they have.

Both teams have had to struggle some, in order to be able to draft the young playmakers that they needed to succeed, especially at QB. They are a year ahead of us(and numerous #1 picks...) ahead of us as far as the rebuilding process is concerned, but I think that if we can have a good draft next year we will become a young nasty team like Detroit, and have a lot of young talent that will threaten the NFCS and the rest of the League for a long time.

The moment we drafted Cameron, I thought the same thing. The future is bright for both teams.

As a life long Lions fan, I can tell you honestly that my giddy level has never been this high. The Lions are scary good, and only going to improve.

And I can say the same thing about the Panthers. My giddy is giddy over the prospect for this team. If we could have stayed healthy, we very well could have sacred people this year. If we get healthy, draft well, and fill a couple holes with good FAs this team will be scary good also.

My giddy says it's so, so... GOOOO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
