Theoretical... We have a top 10 pick and have the choice of a stud receiver or DT...

How many on here would take Miller if they had the chance in the 1st? This guy has that kind of talent. BPA is a term I get on here all the time, he could be BPA. We either need a great DT or a LB that can create pressure up the gut because otherwise games like weve been seeing are going to be happening a lot. Not to mention since we now face Jimmy Graham twice a year we might won't to find a LB that can cover him.

two of our starting LBs, one of them is one of the best LBs in the NFL, are on IR

And you want us to draft a MLB in the first round when we have so many other pressing needs.

I think we should draft a LB maybe in the 4th or 5th just in case whatever happens with TD, but our first two picks need to be used on WR, CB, or DT.

BPA. If thats at CB or DT I'm happy as can be but unfortunately I don't see one. If you want to draft a #2 WR over a D that is as bad as any in the league be my guess. But I actually would like to win games next year. Not to mention TD is not a starter, he's an injury waiting to happen. Cut our loses there.

But Floyd screams Dwayne Jarrett to me. Complete with the alcohol problem.

you might as well walk up to Floyd and smack him in the face

when Jarrett ran routes, he looked like an uncoordinated giraffe out on the field. imo, Floyd can run a ton of routes already and looks pretty fluid in most of them.

I don't know why you think giving Newton more weapons, and possibly an elite one at that, and say our need at LB is so bad we'd need to use a first rounder on it. Even if TD is cut or whatever, LB still isn't even in the top 5 of needs.

This thread is about if we have a top 10 pick, and at the time there is no DT worth a top 10 pick, and maybe one CB worth it. There are 3 WR that are worth that. If the BPA is a WR, why complain, if the WR pans out this will make us unbelievably better.

Blackmon and Jeffrey won't be there unless we pick, unless a miracle "Fairley" type fall occurs (Most draft sites have us picking around 10 to 12). However if either is there, you take them (Blackmon over Jeffrey, in my opinion).

If not...

Then, the consensus would be to take Michael Floyd, that way we can actually have a receiving corp. worth a damn (Steve Smith, David Gettis, Michael Floyd, Brandon LaFell, Armanti Edwards, and Kealoha Pilares).

OR

Take defensive tackle and run-stopper specialist: Brandon Thompson from Clemson. If we take Thompson, we would hopefully be set at the defensive tackle position (Ron Edwards, Brandon Thompson, Sione Fua, and Terrell McClain)

wasn't floyd making jimmy clausen look good? might be a good choice lol. i think it will be a couple years before gettis get's back into full game speed since WRs do a lot of cuts/stops and getting the knee back to where it was takes awhile from everything i've seen from past rehabbers. this is only if we can't get Vincent Jackson or Pierre Garcon ;)

We aren't losing games because our O can't move the ball. You are blind if you can't see that. But of course another WR will solve all our problems.

How is drafting a WR in the first round when its the best player available ignoring our defense, when we still have free agency and our other draft picks to address those issues?

Last time I checked this is a draft forum. I guess you know who will be available when FA starts and who we will sign.

BPA is a matter of opinion.

I'm pretty sure our draft needs will change based on players that leave in free agency and who we sign in free agency. Its pretty silly to have your heart set on drafting a defensive player in the first round when a WR might be the better player and the team may have already strengthened the defense before the draft, and vice versa

I could use the same argument on you for having your heart set on a WR. I am focusing on what we know not on what might happen.

    • Yep, I always said the best way to use him in the NFL is as a full time CB, and then get 8-12 offensive snaps a game. Half those snaps he's out there as a decoy so the defense doesn't know where the ball is going every time he's on the field, the other have are play calls with him as the first read, and likely trying to get it into his hands quickly to let him make plays with his athleticism.  That also would mean he needs less practice time on offense too, as he's not trying to get his routes/timing down with the QB as he'd be running a bunch of quick hitter routes or screens to get it in his hands. How NFL GM's didn't see this is beyond me (or maybe some did and it's why the Browns traded the pick and it was just the Jags who were dumb enough to think he'd be able to play both ways full time at an elite level.
    • Also reading this thread again and seeing that was a clear WoahCam alt, it really makes me wish he was still around to hear his takes on how "his guys" are doing this year. Shedeur can't beat out Gabriel for the #2 job behind old man Flacco, Hunter is struggling on offense and doesn't have a clear role, while T-Mac is proving to be exactly who I said he was and the guy WoahCam was very much down on for a while until he said he was coming around on him, lol
    • Yeah, it really seems like they made that move legitimately expecting him to be a two way player which is just crazy. You just can't be a two way player in the modern NFL. The obvious approach with Hunter was to have him focus on being a CB first and basically motivate him by telling him that the better you play on defense and the more comfortable you are on the field there, the more comfortable we're going to be putting more on your plate by carving out a bigger piece for you on offense but likely always limiting that to maybe 10-12 snaps a game at most on offense. Starting him out primarily at WR was just insane. At least they quickly saw that and adjusted but they really blew it with the off-season/preseason approach and it's causing Hunter to play catch up.
