Remember, per the sites I'm using, if two players are tied at a certain position, the next number will be discounted. Let me elaborate.

If Michael Irvin and Charlie Joiner are tied at 29 on the all time receptions list, the next person on the list would be 31, not 30.

Now that that is established, let us begin.

-With 3 catches sunday, Steve Smith is now 45th on the NFL's all time receptions list. He will likely move up to 43rd this sunday. With an extraordinary game, he will move up to 42nd, and considering Smitty's history against Atlanta-I can't rule out the possibility.

-With 79 receiving yards sunday, Steve moved to 40th on the NFL's all time receiving yards list. He will likely move up to 38th next week.

-With his touchdown catch sunday, Steve Smith is now 80th on the NFL's all time receiving TD list. Sound kinda low? Not a problem. This entire list is SO bunched up, he is on pace to finish the season with another ten TD catches, which would tie him for 45th on the NFL's all time list along with the likes of Charlie Joiner, Bobby Mitchell, Michael Irvin, Sonny Randle, Sterling Sharpe, Gary Clark and Henry Ellard.

-Steve Smith's 3 catches sunday cut some more ground down on Moose's last remaining team record-which is catches. Steve's 647 is 49 shy of Moose's 696. He is on pace to break that record this year.

I might dig deeper and check on the other records that have been broken or approached by Panther's players this year, but I wanted to devote a thread specifically to Smitty. This year's "rejuvenation" (aka finally getting a decent QB) is going to help Smitty make his HoF bid. It would be robbery if he didn't get in-there are few players in the history of the game who are as downright talented as Smith is. If he wasn't playing in a run first offense with a horrid offensive mind running the show, or didn't have to put up with QB struggles the past four years-imagine what he would have done. He deserves it, and if he keeps going at this pace, I think he'll get it. A Super Bowl or 5 couldn't hurt either. He also has some other things going for him in his bid, such as his triple crown and such.

Most times, Panther fans taking the initiative and trying to impact the team or it's players in some ways, well they are usually mocked by other Panther fans-but this is something everyone should WANT to get on board with....What I'm talking about is this-start getting the HoF hype machine on Smitty going. Start talking about it. Tell it to the analysts. Buy a billboard, but after all this guy has done for this team, he deserves us to give something back.

The guy is such a complete receiver it's incredible. He's not just some fast, shifty guy. The guy will go up and get ANY ball. He's insanely strong, a phenomenal run blocker, the list of things this guy does GREAT could go on and on.

As much as I love Steve Smith, and how awesome those stats are, I don't think Steve Smith makes the Hall of Fame.

My reasoning? Cris Carter isn't in the Hall of Fame. As long as Cris Carter isn't in the Hall of Fame, it's hard to put ANY receiver in the Hall.

(How the hell Michael Irvin got in at all, especially over Cris Carter and Andre Reed, makes no sense to me.)

EDIT: I love Smitty as much as the next Panthers fan, but honestly, I don't think he'll get into the Hall. Being a Panther definitely hurt any chance that he had, because of the small market. (See: Andre Reed.)

Also, Cris Carter will get in eventually. Don't you worry your little head. Smitty staying in the public spotlight might help his chances too-it seems to be working for other analysts, though he already stated awhile back he wants to coach high school football.

If the voters actually look at Steve's play and his situation-I think he will be difficult to keep out as long as he continues to makes dents in the record book. Might take a little bit of time-hopefully it doesn't-but as I've said, the guy is one of the most pure talented players ever. He deserves it.

I do believe that Cris Carter will get in eventually, but honestly, how was he not first ballot? Since when is 1100+ receptions, 13500+ yards, 130 TDs not enough?

As long as Cris Carter isn't in, no receiver in our era shouldn't even be allowed into Canton, even with tickets.

Great info, awesome post. Steve Smith also helped Jake with those 18 comeback wins, thy must say something as well.

I dont know why people talk to much crap on Jake yeah he sucked last 08-09 with the panthers, but watch some old highlights of Steve catch's Jake makes ridiculous throws dodging tacklers making time for smith to get open. I dont care what anyone says Jake was good back in the day a little inconsistent but still really good over all.
