Do people expect a defense to be good

When the offense turns the ball over 3 times?

Talk all the sh*t you want about our defense, but we're not going to hold every team to 14 points. The defense put us in a great position to win late in the 3rd quarter when they forced a Falcons punt while up 17-14. We then put up one of the worst offensive series all game, punted them the ball and put them in great field position(on the CAR 49). The defense then forced a FG which tied the game, and our offense once again goes stale. That essentially ended the game.

Our interior line is poo. Our linebackers are poo. Our secondary is questionable(putting it nicely) at best. That doesn't excuse the offense for consistently coming up short in big situations.

we turned the ball over a poo load of times last year and our defense was a million times better in every way imaginable

PS. the last turnover was in garbage time with 0 seconds left, and the 1st one, there was pretty much no time left on the clock in the 1st half

I know I will change my post. Point still stands the offense is coming up short often.

I know our defense is absolutely horrible but our offense needs to step up. Most of it falls on the coaching. This post was by no means a slight to Cam.

says the cam nuthugger

cam can do no wrong is that right? cam had nothing to do with the failure of this team today?

Please don't compare me to that troglodyte that is footballisasport.

I'm actually pretty level headed in debating about Cam.

First turnover didn't hurt the defense any and the third was irrelevant. The second one hurt, but I would say all the three and outs after we got to 17 points hurt more than anything else the offense did.

The first turnover cost us at the very least 3 points, likely 7. Momentum is a wonderful thing and a defense playing with a lead makes everything easier.

Just saying.

Tom Brady and Drew Brees throw picks all the time and you dont see them with one win. Just saying...

I would agree with you, IF our defense didn't prove you wrong every week and play like fuging swiss cheese when we have the lead....

Never said the defense wasn't partially at fault. I'm saying the offense consistently fails in big situations. You can't argue that.

We're simply not a good football team. I know it sucks to say that, but it's true. I'm hopeful that will change with a good offseason, but as for now we're probably looking at 3-13/4-12.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
