ESPN Picks Between Newton & Luck

We're not talking about success, talking about black QBs going to NFL.

You complained yet have nothing to back it up so you backpedal and deflect.

Typical trash on the Huddle these days.

The problems aren't so much with black QBs as they are athletic QBs, many of whom happen to be black but a couple of white examples (Crouch, Jones) were mentioned above by CSX.

College coaches tend to exploit their athleticism as runners rather than concentrating on teaching them to be passers. That makes for wins at the college level - which is technically a college coach's only job - but it leaves them ill-prepared for the next level.

Jim Tressel was a rare exception. He made a concerted effort to teach athlete QBs like Troy Smith and Terrelle Pryor to be passers first. I'd love to see more coaches take that approach in the future, but I'm not holding out much hope there :(

you think The Golden Calf of Bristol would be the figure he is or would've been drafted where he was if he was black?

The only way that happens is if the NFL creates a farm system.

Careers are too short, primes are too short, it'll never happen. Win now or GTFO.

My problem is that people, certain people, act like it's based on race yet ignore that it's giving these athletes, who likely couldn't do anything else, an opportunity to make millions of dollars.

Pat White screwed himself. Would Armanti still be on a roster as a QB? Would Hines Ward have two SB rings as a QB? It's fuging annoying. Someone brought up Brad Smith

It's not often 5'10" Qbs who can't throw make it in the NFL. Maybe they are better suited to be a kick returner and wild cat guy. Better than being a stock boy at the local grocery store.

How do you expect anyone to answer that? You have the answer you want already in your head. People love him because he's a good person off the field and an undeniable winner.

Everything else you want to believe is your own self insecurities.

I actually don't think The Golden Calf of Bristol would have been drafted where he were if not for Josh McDaniels being a numbskull.

Had it not been for McDaniels being nuts about him, I think The Golden Calf of Bristol would have dropped at least to the second or third, maybe further.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
