Winning Fans Evene While losing Games?

Had an interesting discussion yesterday with a long time Cowboys fan. He is a relative who lives in SC and has hated the Panthers because they "keep him from seeing his team play" (I know - I have told him to get DirecTV, but like most complainers, he is too cheap). He has been an avid Cowboy fan, even bought tickets to the Cowboys/Panthers playoff game years ago and took me (did not call him cheap that day).

Had not seen him in months until yesterday. He said "you know,we are starting to pull for the Panthers some - they have really become fun to watch".

Doesn't change yesterday's tough loss, but maybe we are "converting" fans of other teams all over our region. I mean, if you can get a Cowboys fan to come around, perhaps we're building more than we know off the field.

Don't know if only watching a team when their 'fun to watch' qualifies as a fan. My girl will watch a close game with me and she doesn't understand anything about football. I consider anyone who sat through last year BEFORE Newton more of a fan.

That's the bad part about getting a star like Cam, he brings Auburn fans with him and other people just hopping right on the bandwagon. These people didn't all of a sudden become Panther fans, their Cam fans, otherwise where were all these people last year? Oh yea the Panther weren't fun to watch. I can't argue with that but Brady is always fun to watch why not be a Patriot fan? Just doesn't make sense.

It's annoying for people to all of a sudden become a fan of something because of a reason they can actually explain. Everyone has to start somewhere but I wish more people would just become more involved out of interest for the team, not over some big change that happens so now they'll decide to be a fan. Why change who they root for all the time or just say their a fan to talk about something?

I respect people a lot more when they say they like/are a fan of Cam rather than saying the Panthers.

If you think your a fan of the Panthers because of Cam, or any other change this year that made the 'Panthers a more bearable topic of conversation'...you're not a fan.

So anyone who became a fan because it's the home team is annoying?

Yep.

A fan of a team to me is forever. I have moved lots and lots of times but I am not switching teams over and over. I have a passion for the Panthers not a passion for the home team where I am living.

I lived in Dallas for example but no way in hell do I root for the Cowboys, I was never a fan of them, ever.

A fan is subjective, there is no right or wrong, it's different for everybody.

By someone you can explain I mean more of saying something like I am a fan of the Panthers because they picked Cam and he is good and 'fun to watch'.

I guess what impressed me is knowing him. He was a Cowboy fan back before Staubach. He has been with the same college team for his entire 50+ years. It was a big deal for him to concede that he might think of switching allegiance.
