Jordan gross

He's actually been quite good this year, and he was going up against the best defensive line we will face all year. The problems on this line start with Bell, who forces poor blocking schemes to make up for his deficiencies in pass blocking.

No not Bell, Otah.

Shame on this front office for thinking Otah would be something he is not, dependable, and not planning around that.

I know, maybe we can find another 4th round CB with knee problems to draft again this coming year.

I'm sorry but Jordan Gross has sucked since '08. Loved hearing the false start penalties yesterday. The line needs overhauled. I really want that #1 pick so we can trade it down and get a ton mroe picks, b/c we need a tackle, defensive tackle, and a linebacker, plus a wide reciever.

No he hasn't and nobody mentions how many offside penalties he get's by rising up when a defender jumps.

He gave up 1 sack to Allen in the Minny game and one to Vandenbosh yesterday.

He has been solid most of the year. Most of the sacks come from up the middle this year. People are not watching the games and want to blame Gross for every sack that happens.

draft kalil and start him at LT.

move gross back to RT with bell as backup.

pick up carl nicks in FA and start him at RG.

Oline fixed.

easy peasy.

If by chance Otah is healthy after this year we could get rid of Gross since he's older and expensive.

I admit banking on Otah not getting hurt again is a huge gamble, however when he's healthy hes pretty good

only way i would keep otah around is as cheap backup...but i'd rather have bell there. otah is always getting hurt, but never as hurt as he acts. biggest criticism of him is that his heart just isn't in the game and you can't fix that.

time to move on.

I can't agree when poster's on a forum start referring to a player's attitude towards playing, we're not on the staff to see how the player works, and we're not in their head to see how the player thinks.

As far as Gross is concerned, he is definitely being unfairly targeted. Week in and week out he faces the opposing teams best pass rusher, and holds his own quite well. I would like to see us trade down as I don'think there are a lot of "can't miss/must have" players at the top of the draft.

Considering how thin our depth is defensively I'd like to see us end up with two 1st's, and our remaining picks and go BPA. I really believe our attention should be on defense, as protection has not really been an issue all season. Some of these plays I think Cam should look to run a hair earlier when it's there to make sure the pass rushers don't sell out and keep contain on passing downs. I think his willingness to stand tall in the pocket (which I'm a fan of) hurts him sometimes.

normally i agree, except with otah it has been in question for much of his career by those on the team, coached the team, or who are around the team a lot.

it's a legit criticism.

Then at least supply reference, without that it seems like a shot in the dark, or a guess or an opinion on something based on nothing more than speculation.

When I see the pressers/read Rivera's quotes I don't get the feeling that Otah didn't do everything they asked. Those previous opinions could very well be linked to how Chris Gamble's ability was called into question, or Smitty wanting to leave after the Fox era ran it's course.

I'm in a position of giving everyone who made the roster the benefit of the doubt until it's proved otherwise, new coach, new team, new attitudes. For reference just look at Smitty's resurgence (compared to his attitude at the end of last season), as well as Gamble's. One player frustrated by his role and losses, and the other in what many reported as Fox's dog-house.

1 sack, but how many pressures? how many hurries or hits? JG was beat by vandenbosh all game and it's been a problem.

    • We’re in a pickle. My best hope is we protect him and can run the ball vs most Ds and the WRs are healthy so he has every chance to not look like what he looked like in too many games last year.
    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
    • Easy to understand Pickett, if this is anywhere close to on point. Canales wants to get as close to Bryce as he can- get the pace and timing in the throws as close a he can to Bryce. So the other players don’t have to adjust so much, to a new guy.       If Cam was the 1, he would look for a rocket arm.  But Bryce is the 1. Look for limited in the same way.  Low velocity, plenty of air under it, feels just like home when Picket comes in. And you have the guys on the second team not having such a radical adjustment (if they have to play) like with Dalton to Bryce.    Enter Grier. I guess we will collect those types.
