The Birds & the Bees

Our daughter is almost 11 and I've already had the birds & bees talk with her but she's at that age where she has lots of interesting questions.

Today's questions were,

Mom, what part of your stomach are the babies stored?

A: In the uterus.

What's a uterus?

A: It's the woman's organ that keeps the baby snug as a bug it's also called a womb.

Mom, Where does the baby come out.

A: The woman's vagina

WHAT THE!!!!! HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN?!?!?!?!

A: It's like a rubber band and gets really stretchy during childbirth.

Well, if it's like a rubber band does it ever break?

A: Sometimes it does.

For the last month she's been running around saying "vagina" and then laughs her head off.

Never got the talk. Neither did my sister. Neither did my girlfriend. Don't really know anybody who has.

By and large, sex ed explains most, unless your school board is an abstinence-only curriculum where all they do is say "don't have sex. these are the things that can happen to you." I don't know what the girls were taught in it, but according to the girls I know, it was all well-explained. From sex, to STDs, to child bearing and birth.

Also, the "vagina game" has become big at my old high school apparently. Used to be the "penis game." I guess when you're an adolescent, those words are just all too funny. Never will understand. God I feel old...

Whatever you do (and it is bound to happen) don't let Grits talk to her.

Wait until she's 13 and asks about masturbation. That's a fun conversation.

Is it voodoo for girls? I ask because my girlfriend is under the impression that not many girls do it. Had to give her the talk. Go figure. How do mothers explain this to their daughters? My dad never discussed it with me, but I lived with my uncle for a few months around 12 or 13, and he threw me a Playboy one day. Didn't say anything at all.

My daughter just flat out asked me about it. She wanted to make sure it was ok.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
