What do you expect our LB core to look like 2012?

THomas Davis should not be in the plans. We are going to have to keep Conner and Senn and THomas Williams at least, but probably Gaither too. If the pick is there, we need DL DB OL worse on defense. So, I believe we will try to pick up some depth in the draft but mostly stay pat and hope that Beason comes back strong. On the other hand it has been suggested that we try to get a top tier LB to strengthen our core. If there's no value in the top 10 for LBs, I don't see us trading down. We would stay at #9 or 10 and draft the best available OL or DB.

With Beason and Connor in the middle, we could show more 3-4 if we got an edge rusher in the draft or FA.

We make a switch to 3-4.

Mario Williams/Jon Beason/ Patrick Willis/ Demarcus Ware.

:hurray:

All kidding aside, I think we'll bring back Thomas Davis at a much lower salary. I also think we'll draft a OLB to challenge if not take the starting job. There should be some really strong talent in the 2nd if the stars align, including Zach Brown, Kevin Reddick and Jarvis Jones. Believe me, I'd love to see Thomas Davis out there starting again, but Carolina has to approach it as if he wont be there with a chance he could show up.

If we do bring Davis back, can we all agree not to pencil him in the starting lineup?

Because its depressing to keep losing our starting OLB every year

i think rotating between thomas davis (assuming he can stay healthy) and jordan senn at wlb could be pretty effective. senn has his shortcomings but he's no slouch. dude definitely has a high motor and goes balls out for some hits.

would be happy if we drafted sean spence from the U, though. always worth taking a shot at a miami linebacker and from what i've seen the man can play ball. kind of like a TD 2.0, safety converted to LB

Davis/Beason/Anderson as the starting lineup, with our new first-round OLB getting ready to take Davis' place when his knee goes.

when his knee goes?

last I checked it took little more than 6 quarters of regular season football for his acl to snap like silly putty for the third time in 2 years

I am not comfortable with Senn starting next year. I love him on ST and as a backup, but he could not cover the crossing routes, which is what he would have to do on nearly every play. New Orleans will expose senn in a big way with Sproles or Moore on shallow crossing routes

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
