Kirkpatrick vs Morris

we have a good spot this draft.. no matter what, i think were gonna end up with a good DB. One of these 2 guys.. i think honestly, (even though he is rated 2nd) that Kirkpatrick is the better choice for our system. he is bigger, hes better in the zone than morris, and to be honest.. i think he plays just a little harder.. (just my opinion from watching what few college games I have) so assuming either one of these guys doesnt go before we get to them.. who would you rather take?

I think well be ok at corner they are probably going to put stock into hogan. With the big money we gave to the home grown guys they are really going to need their draft picks to pull through for them.

HAHA. I highly doubt that. We're gonna go with Claiborne/Kirkpatrick if they're available, which Kirkpatrick should be.

Why you think reaching for a risky prospect like Kirkpatrick over taking the best player available is a smart move is... puzzling.

I Hope to high heaven we don't take CB. It's just not that important of a position on the defense when you already have at least one great one.

Better pass rush=better pass defense

Better #2 CB=#3 cb and safeties get abused just the same=similar pass defense

Look at all the teams with two great(using that world subjectively) cornerbacks. NY Jets with Revis+Cromartie and the Eagles with Aso+DRC, opposing offenses simply target their #2 and #3 corners and safeties to pick up the yards. But the Biggest difference between them and us? They both have defensive lines to rush the passer.....we don't.

Look at the draft prospects. There are NO DLineman worth taking with the 8th pick. CB is the only sensible way to go. We can get DTs thru Free Agency, like Ron Edwards, who will be back next year

Hmm. A tall, injury-prone CB who's not a great tackler and runs a 4.5. fug yeah, sign me up.

I don't understand the love affair with Kirkpatrick.

Want a good defensive lineman? Pick one from a Saban defense.

Want a good linebacker? Pick one from a Saban defense.

Want a good safety? Pick one from a Saban defense.

Want a good cornerback? Might want to look elsewhere. Like LSU. Or South Carolina. Or Texas. Or Auburn.

Bama and Saban have all of *one* starting CB in the league: Kareem Jackson of the Houston Texans. Go the Houston boards to find out their opinion of Kareem Jackson.

    • Canales up first. Guys got their legs back yesterday and started a little slow when they came out Bryce challenged them in the huddle and they responded "Dominant practice for the defense today." Praised turnovers, "beautiful hits," and being physical Praised Moehrig, Ransom, Incoom, and Jones II Confirmed playing starters. Predominantly a young team and can't pass up an opportunity. Emphasized game day routines such as nutrition, body readiness, etc. Plus it's a bunch of new guys on the defense. Bryce will start. Will play them the first two, but starters might sit for the third game depending on how practice goes that week. Nic Scourton has a mild hamstring that happened in special teams. DJ Johnson had an issue with his hip flare up and is getting checked out this afternoon. Experimenting with approach to preseason games. In Seattle they played their starters in all but the last preseason game and what Pete Carroll was looking for in terms of mental readiness to play football. Thomas Incoom has been getting a lot of work with AC Carter adding to his toolbelt. Getting better as a rusher and being physical in the run game. Looking for a consistency in response. 1pt for a win, 3pts for a TD. Defense doesn't like that, but in games if they give up one go ball the score can swing. They challenged the pass game and the run game today. Guys are getting together before, between, and after team drills to challenge each other Job of the coaching staff to set the foundation for our schemes, philosophy, and expectations of what it's like to play Panthers football. Powerful when players take that and the locker room owns it. That's when it becomes our team, their team. At the end of the day, the men on the field have to rebound from a bad play, celebrate the good plays, and keep each other in tune for a whole game. Robert Hunt is amazing. Size, talent, quickness, flexibility. Really intelligent guy that there will say himself there are technique things he needs to work on. Regardless of where players are at, there's a constant learning curve and loves that Big Rob is challenging himself with the position coach. Thinks the digital down and distance can be really valuable. Getting the information quickly will help with the flow of the game. Thought TMac looked great but there were some near misses that he'll have to get in the room and communicate with Bryce on while reviewing film. James Mitchell keeps doing right and his trust factor is increasing with the QBs. If you're right and the coverage says the ball goes there, it'll come. Had some issues at the start of camp but is trending up. Newton or Person: "It looked like today was beyond thud but short of live. What do you call that?" Canales: "No, that's thud. In my mind, that's what thud should look like. The challenge for our defensive guys is can you put your body in a position where we know that would've been a tackle." Whizzing by, tagging with two hands, etc doesn't show you whether you would've made a tackle. That's not real football. Let's the play extend because guys have to be ready to chase sometime where the ball squirts out from a pit. Can't train to say "Ah, it was a tackle" and relax but instead play with intensity through the whistle. Lathan Ransom is bringing the physical style of play that they saw on film. Has been really into the details and someone that they can count on. Has really given himself a chance to start at the other safety position. Excited for the extra energy from a game-like environment that they'll get from FanFest. Used to have four preseason games and now FanFest feels like that first one. Will give ST full speed reps to evaluate. Making plays and feeding off of the fans. Window closed quickly on the INT to finish practice. CSW baited Bryce with some movement and made a great play. Saw it from Bryce's perspective with TMac coming open. Has played all over the secondary that they can count on to speak loudly and be on the same page with his teammates.
