Will need to be tempered with the knowledge that if Peyton Mannings surgery was successful, there is no way that Polian will take Luck with a 4-5 year contract while Manning will be there the entire time. There will be a trade of the pick or of Manning. This will shake up the top end of the draft and could provide more trades and maneuvering than in any draft we have ever seen.

I would not put it past Polian to trade Manning and keep Luck

With the Rookie salary cap, the Colst can aford to draft Luck AND keep Manning for the next 2 years. That is if Peyton doesn't retire.

As for Peyton being too old to play, When Elway won his 2 Super Bowls, he was 4 years older than Peyton is now.

Now I could see Peyton retires and the Colts bring him back as QB coach!

Indy will take Luck regardless, Peyton is old.

This. The guy is 35 coming off of a major neck surgery and his absence showed you that it's rebuilding time. The fact that the GM just got the boot confirms that. You think a new GM will be hired and just be willing to accept keeping a 2-14 coach as part of the conditions of the job? I doubt it. Caldwell and his staff are probably out the door next.

Manning's injury pretty much showed that he was keeping that franchise afloat by himself. Irsay recognized that.

It's rebuild time in Indy. They're taking Luck, but I don't think that necessarily means Manning is out. Luck could be stuck in an Aaron Rodgers type situation, but I think Manning will have to restructure for that to happen. If not, I'm not sure you can keep him. I'm not sure you can have all that money tied up in one position when you're trying to rebuild. You need that money to go out and get more help.

Unfortunately for the Colts, Manning also now realizes that he IS that franchise and I don't think he'll be willing to restructure. Manning was one of the most valuable players in the league prior to this season and as good as we knew he was, I think this year REALLY showed everyone how good he truly is.

Whatcha wanna bet?

:cam:

I think its a pretty safe bet. Lets say Peyton goes, The Colts would pretty much be saying they are giving up on a team that has gone to the playoffs 10 of the past 11 seasons with at least 10 wins. At best Luck would struggle running this offense as it is. Heck Brady, Rodgers and Brees would see some serious dips in stats.

But if they do trade him (Peyton), who would take him. A lot of teams would want him, but with all the QB moves this season each team that needs him would have to take a serious hit at cap time (miami, skins, vikings, KC) It just doesnt make since. I dont think he would restructure his contract too much, especially if it is to go to a team that probably wont be good enough overall even with him there to go to a superbowl.

But if he stays, and they get a WR to replace either Garcon, or Wayne one of which undoubtedly leaving in FA... Luck basically becomes very valuable as bait to get more draft picks

Denver becomes the only wild card in this scenario

    • Two things: 1. Dr. Eric Eager is central to the draft process 2. I know that it was edited, but we didn't hear "Thieneman" one time, not even before the Vikings pick.
    • Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy
    • Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
