Was Walter Payton the best running back in NFL history??

All those RBs I named are better than Payton. He did have a great desire and whatever but I think people hold such a high opinion of him because of the way he was such a great guy and the sad way he passed away.

I'm not trying to troll. I have a different opinion than yall do. Oh noeeesssss

Even if I wasn't a Bears fan, I would call MrTrolldown an idiot for this statement.

Cool. Moderators if you're going call it one way, you gotta call it the same way with everyone. This is a violation and I doubt anything will happen. If I, or another poster, were to say something like this (especially to a Moderator) we would be infracted or at least warned.

I'm not trolling you, bro. Payton was a great player but I would take a number of running backs over him.

I have a different opinion than you. Instead of doing a little competitive banter or agree to disagree, you call me an idiot.

as TRD would say : #huddlelogic

Hey, I respect your entitlement to having your own opinion. But exactly what is it about those RBs that you listed that made them "better than Payton?"

yards, superbowls, touchdowns, rushing titles, level of competition, teams they played on, era they played in, etc.

quick now go run to wikipedia and look up all those stats and prove me wrong

Saying, "I would call someone an idiot" vs saying, "You're an idiot" are totally different statements. Don't try to argue semantics with me, boh!

Cool. Then I could call most Bear fans fine young males who are probably from Hickory or Spartanburg.

Semantics are bad for everyone involved.

None of that would bother me. I could call folks that have Larry Sprinkle as their avatar a "fine young male" (very eloquent, there) and wrong about the weather 65% of the time. You should wikipedia Larry's stats!

Very convincing support of your stance. Thanks!

I'll be your Huckleberry:

3. Barry Sanders+ 15,269 1989-1998 det

4. Curtis Martin 14,101 1995-2005 2TM

5. LaDainian Tomlinson (31) 13,684 2001-2011 2TM

3. Marcus Allen+ 123 1982-1997 2TM

4. Walter Payton+ 110 1975-1987 chi

5. Jim Brown+ 106 1957-1965 cle

Walter Payton has 1 rushing title at 1852 yds

Jim Brown has 7 rushing titles, highest attained 1863 but also garnered the title at 942 yds in 1957.

Emmitt Smith has 3 rushing titles, highest at 1713 yds.

Barry Sanders has 4 rushing titles, highest at 2053 yds.

O.J. Simpson has 4 rushing titles, highest at 2003 yds.

Walter Payton has 1 SB

Emmitt Smith has 3 SB's

Barry Sanders 0

O.J. 0

Jim Brown has 1 NFL championship not the SB however

Barry Sanders would seem to have the highest amount of adversity against him as far as competition goes. A crap team in which he was the sole offensive component.

Jim Brown would seem to have the highest amount of adversity era wise for the fact it was the 50's. Also the fact that Offenses weren't as evolved as they are today.

These two seem too me to edge the conversation into:

What if Barry never retired/different team?

What if Jim Brown was a player today?

Walter Payton however without a doubt tops both of them in the category of a football player. If you didn't watch the NFL network special on him from a few months ago, you missed out.
