Trade down?

Jack (I think) made a point in another thread: Trading down is not that easy. You have to find someone willing to trade up.

He is right. If we are NOT going to draft one of the top 3 OTs in the draft, there are a ton of teams looking for one as a primary need. So, if at least Reiff or Martin is on the board (and at least one should be), who are the teams that might want to trade up? These are the teams needing tackles (from memory) Kansas City, Arizona, Baltimore, Buffalo, Minnesota, St. Louis, Indy, Miami, and probably about 3 more. Not that we would trade with all of these, but teams would have to leapfrog teams that need T. So, if there is a T and we announce we want to drop, we WILL get offers if a LT is on the board.

So, what would you do? Stick and take a T for ourselves or Kirkpatrick, Trade, but how far down?

With all the needs the panthers have on the defensive side on the ball they need to recoup the 3rd round pick they used to get Olsen. A trade down is in order. I am a new Panther fan and cant believe how much cap money is tied up with unworthy players. There is no flexibility to do anything in free agency. Hopefully, some of the guys who were hurt and not playing will be back to full strength next season. A stud receiver to go with Smith is a must. Also the team needs to pass more from play action with the great RB production it gets.

If Reiff or Martin are available for us, I could definitely see us taking one of them. But if we decide to trade down I could see the Bills (if we pick ahead of Miami), Chiefs or Cardinals sending us a 3rd (or maybe even next year's 2nd) to leapfrog the Bills to get one of them. A 3rd would be sufficient to move down 2 or 3 spots in my opinion.

I worry that Zach Brown might not be an instant starter and that he might be a physical specimen, but lack the football skills needed. Tackling, filling gaps, etc.

Since we don't have a third rounder, I would hope the guys we do get to pick could contribute sooner than later.

Ive been against drafting dline help, but after watching the giants yesterday. If we do trade down im all for using whatever our top two picks end up being on dline. The giants corners are nothing great and they shut down atlanta because the pressure their line puts on.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
