Is Steve Smith a Hall of Famer right now?

realistically SS can play another 4 years? 4 rings get you in.

I think one might be enough

Realistically, to get in Smith will probably need someone from the voting media to take up his case and push it. And then you wanna hope nobody like Peter King fights it (like he fought against Art Monk for so many years).

Still annoys me that Sam Mills isn't in, but objectively speaking there are plenty of guys who deserve it that aren't there. Mills probably won't get there unless it's on an old timer's ballot somewhere down the road.

Bruce's post is not stupid.

Getting into the Hall of Fame is tough. Plenty of deserving guys don't make it. And realistically, the voters won't be looking through Panther homer glasses.

Love Smitty, but minus a ring or some other huge milestone to hang his hat on, the HOF is no lock.

To say he isn't close when he has already surpassed other Hall of Famers and has publicaly stated he wants to play for another handful of years is dumb.

To ignore all the valid points in this thread, and put a /thread tag at the end with the expectancy that we should all stop talking about something because he said so, in spite of the stated fallacies within his opinion, is ignorance.

When you combine Dumb+Ignorance, what do you get?

Stupid.

Smitty is not even in the top 5 of receivers in the last 10 years. How does that make him a HoF again? I do understand that he was limited with Delhomme, but voters don't care about that.

Anyone wanna make a bet?

I will give you 50-1 odds.

I love love love Smitty. But it aint happening kid.

All of the assumptions of him getting 1200 yards the next 3 seasons are very very optimistic.

C'mon guys. I know you love him and he is a hero to us as Panthers fans. But lets be reasonable.

Saying you want to play four or five more years doesn't guarantee it'll happen, or that if it does it'll go well. And much as I like what he's done so far, I doubt it's enough just yet.

Did you see the list Pantho posted?

 I love how you think you can merely put on a tone of superiority and expect us all to accept your poor, condescending, arguments.

Got news for you, son, your opinion is pretty worthless in the grand scheme things.

If Smith continues to put up numbers at a decent pace as long as he plays, he will be right at the top of the charts statistically. Throw in a ring and it will be hard to keep him out.

That's facts, boy.

It doesn't have to go well. Have you even looked at the stats? Two more elite seasons, followed by a few seasons in the slot, will give him, as I've stated, an undeniable chance.

Btw, CG, you called my post stupid, but you are not even recognizing that I am answering the OP's question.

He said is #89 a HoFer now? and I said he is not even close. And he isn't. Simple and Plain.

Yeah, if he continues to be superman for 5 more years, and wins a ring. He would have a chance. But I don't see it happening.

If you asked me to have a bet of over/under the next 3 seasons Smitty getting 3200 yards. I would take the under.

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
