Pat White in the second round for Panthers?

Dream for a moment, Panthers fans.

Imagine Carolina's front-office decision-makers putting aside the need for backup linemen and a cornerback in order to inject an electrifying playmaker and potential successor to quarterback Jake Delhomme – all with a single move in the second round of the NFL draft Saturday.

With your eyes closed, and with heels tapping, see in your mind's eye the intriguing possibility of West Virginia's Pat White in a Panthers uniform.

In the short term, White could return kicks, be a dynamic presence in the lineup when the Panthers go to the “wildcat” formation. He could also line up as a receiver or running back at times.

In the future, he could be groomed to take over the quarterback position from Delhomme and create an entirely new breed of signal-caller in coach John Fox's offense.

....

“He's the kind of kid you want (to have the) ball in his hands, whether it's running it, catching it or throwing it,” Mayock said of White. “If I was a GM, I'd take him in the second round, use him as a ‘wildcat' this year and try to develop him as a quarterback because I think he has that kind of ability.”

Hey, a guy with the ability to extend a play and build into a franchise QB with your franchise offensive linemen, Jarrett, and your Halfbacks as a base on offense... that mixed with the unlikelihood of White reading coverage as bad as Jake does... then bam, you could easily have a franchise QB who is considered as a steal down the line.

Mayock typically knows what he's talking about when it comes to how someone projects and their ability. I'd be all for seeing it happen if I was a Panther fan.

As much as I like Jake and think he is our quarterback for the next year or so. If Pat White fell all the way to #59 I would have a hard time passing him up. A QB with some wheels would make our running game impossible to stop and put Steve Smith in the H.O.F.

I have never been a fan of mobile quarterback as they tend to run too much. What I do like about Pat White is, from what I have read, he has an arm. A good strong solid arm that can make all the throws.

If we didn't have so many other needs I would love this pick. If we by some chance end up with and additonal 2nd rounder or two. He would be wearing our colors if he was on the board when we picked.

Go Panthers

Well if you check, you can see the post count there. Its just someone trying to be a douche. As you seen, I was just trying to offer the convo a fresh idea on the subject and someone pops in here being a pain. You guys should ban their ip and see who it is lol...

Seemed like Troy Smith did good whenever he got to play for the Ravens.

I honestly think Pat White could step in and upgrade your offense some. Think about the youth, speed, arm, and how cheap you guys could lock him up for multiple years. The question here is... why the hell not?

    • there is one common denominator in the 2003 & 2015 Carolina Panthers teams they both had ELITE top tier Qb play.  it would require a MVP type of season from Bryce Young to have the same type of success that Jake Delhomme had in  2003 & or Cam Newton in 2015 & lead this team to a SuperBowl is this going to happen or is there any reason to believe Bryce Young is capable of playing similar to Jake Delhomme in 2003 or Cam Newton in 2015 ? well no there is no absolutely NO reason whatsoever to believe that this is going to happen in 2026 ..just saying
    • I'd actually like to see Cherelus get a fair shot to win the job in camp. Wallace is decent in drop zone coverage, but he gets abused in the play action game and is often times out of position in the run game. It might just be me, but I swear every time I watch Wallace play, I see multiple plays a game were it looks like he's just trying to be blocked. Watching Cherelus last year he at least looked like he was trying to hit someone on every play. Wallace plays like a LB who doesn't trust what he sees and it makes him passive and cautious versus Cherelus who regardless of if his decision is right or wrong goes at it 100%.
    • Agreed.  Hasn’t happened to me either, but I feel very strongly about it.  That’s not just one of the worst things a woman could do to a man, it’s a power inherent to only women and is one of the worst things a HUMAN being can do to another.  A man can’t “hide” a pregnancy or maternity.  It’s impossible.  And that sucks for anyone that has to go through that. I always got a weird vibe off her and just found her very unlikeable.  Annoying even.  I’ve always been good at reading people and there was just something about her to me that was off-putting, somewhere under the surface.  And here we are…  she is despicable.
