Should we get Alshon Jeffrey in the 5th round??

Both those guys have more athleticism in their pinky finger then Alshon has in his whole body. You're comparing him to two of the most freakish athletes in the NFL, that's how they compensate for a lack of speed.

Read the whole thing not just the names my good sir .. they both (came into the nfl as rookies) like that .. fitz was slow at 4.65 .. andre was slow with the ability to out muscle defenders ( dont remember his 40 ) .. then I went on to say how they progressed over the years with Fitz getting faster and Andre just going straight superman mode.

You don't dramatically improve athleticism at this level, Fitz and Johnson brought that into the NFL with them and coaches got it out of them... Alshon doesn't have anything close to that level of raw athleticism.

My perception is .. Defense is played in the SEC .. you won't see better defenses anywhere else IMO and typically those that are ranked higher if any .. all are in the south east somewhere (typically a team from florida) . That is why I state that as a big deal. And if you noticed he gets yards after the catch too. He has what you would call sneaky speed.

You can also make the case that there are a lot of awful offenses in the SEC, and therefore those elite defenses look better than what they really are because of the competition they are competing against.

When Jeffrey gets doubled, that's because he's the best receiver South Carolina has which does NOT mean he is going to be a great NFL receiver. TJ Graham received a lot of double coverage for NC State this past year and produced basically identical stats to Jeffrey. Doesn't mean he is going to be the same receiver in the NFL that Jeffrey is.

We've seen the players caught in-between the traditional size/ability parameters for two different positions, and how it can stunt their NFL development. Alshon has this problem...he really does seem to favor the new NFL mold for a possession TE. Match-up nightmare, vertical ability, all packed into a sturdy frame.

Jeffery had half the stats this year that he had last year though. He wasn't thrown the ball nearly as much because Shaw spread it around way more than Garcia who used Jeffery as a get out of jail free card.

    • Dan absolutely crushed it It's crazy because during the Hurney and Fitterer years most draft picks I was disappointed by or had to a lot of mental gymnastics to convince myself it was a good pick Now every selection I'm immediately like, great pick  So fuging refreshing
    • Digging a little deeper: Brazzell did wear #7 at Tulane but currently taken by Moehrig. I think he initially wore #11 before switching to #17 at Tennessee. Also, he wore #3 when he played basketball in highschool.
    • Except when it comes to the Huddle... Apparently, some on here will think a player sucks and is a bust if they have a bad game during their rookie season 😂
