S-Chris Hope-depth at S, push Martin for starting job

Draft(no trades)

Round 1 - Jonathan Martin - OT - Stanford

-Martin would be the safer pick at 8/9 rather than Michael Brockers, Dre Kirkpatrick, or Janoris Jenkins meaning the value of the pick would be better. Martin would also be the smart pick imo if Carolina expects to be in the playoffs or playoff contention at the least over the next few years. He would be someone who could step in day one at right tackle and start and replace Jordan Gross at left tackle down the road. It would be harder to find a franchise tackle in the last 8 to 10 picks of the first round. Alternate: Janoris Jenkins - CB - North Alabama

Round 2 - Vontaze Burfict - LB - Arizona State

-This is a tough choce between Burfict and a cornerback such as Leonard Johnson from Iowa State and Stphon Gilmore from South Carolina. It is also a bit too early for my favorite corner prospect, Josh Norman. I do however, love Burfict in the 2nd round. After an amazing sophomore season, Vontaze had a not so stellar Junior year. He was once considered a top 10 pick but since last season, his stock has fallen to a possible 2nd round pick. He has all the potential in the world but does have some character concerns. I believe learning under guys like Beason, Davis, and Anderson would be great for Burfict and Carolina. Alternate: Fletcher Cox - DT - Mississippi State

Round 4 - DeQuan Menzie - CB - Alabama

-After passing on a cornerback in the first two picks, the fourth round pick has to be used on a corner or a defensive tackle such as Marcus Forston or Derek Wolfe. If DeQuan Menzie had another year of eligibility at Alabama, he would be a 1st round pick next year. As an Alabama fan, I was able to see both Menzie and Kirkpatrick both on t.v. and in person. I believe Menzie would by far be a better fit in Rivera's/McDermott's system imo. Alternate: Keenan Robinson - OLB - Texas

Round 5 - Akiem Hicks - DT - Regina

-Yet another tough choice between a defensive tackle, receiver/scatback, or safety. I just couldn't pass up on Hicks due to his great potential. At 6'5, 324 lbs, Hicks has very surprising athletic ability. He reminds me of a bigger Nick Fairley, and I expect him to blow up the combine. If Carolina wants Hicks bad enough, they may have to trade into the 3rd round, possibly back into the late 2nd. As of right now, most rankings that I have seen have Hicks rated anywhere from early 4th round to late 6th round. Alternate: Janzen Jackson - S - McNeese State

Round 6 - Bryan Anger - P - Cal

-Insert random kicker/punter here. But seriously though, Mare and Baker sucked beyond belief last season. I've seen Shawn Powell, Drew Butler, and Kyle Martens all mocked to Carolina. Seriously? No Bryan Anger? Last season Anger averaged 44.6 yards per punt. Throughout his career at Cal, Anger totaled an average of 42.3 yards per punt in 26 games, including 30 punts of 50 or more yards. In 140 total punts, Anger pinned the opponent inside their own 20 yard line. Alternate: any other kicker/punter

Round 7 - Eddie Pleasant - S - Oregon

-It's down to either depth at defensive end, safety, or a return man. It may be easy to compare Pleasant to former Oregon teammate T.J. Ward, but their play styles are so similar. I have a feeling that Pleasant will probably increase his draft stock at the combine to a late 5th round pick. Alternate: T.J. Graham - WR - N.C. State

Round 7(comp) - Travis Benjamin - WR/KR - Miami

-A kick and punt returner is needed badly. Take your pick between Rivera's want of a scatback or a receiver in this spot. Scatback's are thin in this draft so i'll go with a receiver. Benjamin has the speed that no other receiver or returner has on the team.

wow. that would be bad.

starting off with the 3rd or 4th best OT and the 4th or 5th best OL in the draft at the 8/9 spot and then following it with the most overrated LB in the draft that probably won't be picked until the 3rd or 4th round because he's a bum.

ugh.

The 3rd best OT has top 10 talent. Is he the 4th best OL in the draft? Probably so behind Kalil, Reiff, and DeCastro. Kalil will be picked in the top three. Reiff is looking like a top six pick, and a guard over a tackle? No.

Overrated? Probably. You would take a corner like Gilmore or Johnson where you know you are just getting an average cornerback over a linebacker who has top ten potential at best and probably third round talent at worst? I think it is well worth the risk.

We have like 15 (i know not really) Olinemen coming back from IR. Then You picked MLB we need OLB. Then What about CB?

Your 4th round CB means Capt will start again. NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Most likely, none of the offensive linemen coming off of ir will be 100%. Plus I would much rather have Martin than any of those guys.

Would you want a small linebacker like Lavonte David or Sean Spence covering Jimmy graham or tony gonzales rather than someone with Burfict's size and speed?

I know. It sucks that we can't get Morris Claiborne at corner, Kalil at OT, Blackmon at Wr, and Luke Kuechly all in one draft

All of them really? Out of all 6-7 guys none will be healthy enough?

No I rather get a OLB like Keenan Robinson, Nigel Bradham both are faster and actual OLB.

Not going another season with Capt starting shouid be a bigger priority then OL.

    • His points are valid.  However, it seems a bit based on past performance and fails to take into consideration trends and conditions that might suggest growth in 2025.   For one, he breaks the team down by position and ranks them separately.  I guess that is a fair way to do it, but they are dependent upon each other. Last year, our DL sucked.  That impacts the rest of the defense.  With no internal pressure, the QBs simply step up to avoid the Edge rush.  I would have suggested that the internal DL is now featuring pass rushers and large people who can collapse the pocket.  Secondly, the LBs were not protected very well in 2024.  It is hard to see the holes and step up when a guard is in your earhole a second after the snap.  Finally, the defensive backs will be forced to make fewer tackles and they will be better in pass protection with a new and improved DL.    Canales made an interesting comment the other day, and I (from the outside looking in) feel the same way:  (paraphrasing) "I have never seen a better group of rookies."   I think the biggest concern is the learning curve.  How long before these rookies are ready?   I am bullish on this team.  I think they win 3 of their first 4 and get confident.  The get the fans behind them.  From there, they win 6 of the remaining 13.  If they stay injury free, they have an outside shot at the NFC south.
    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
