Ivan's Mock Draft 2.0+ Off season moves.

First and foremost let me start by saying that we need a CB badly, I've said it numerous times. I'm a firm believer of it and unfortunately I've come to the realization no matter how much I pray, hope, want Morris Claiborne to 'drop' to us. It will not happen. Not after my wet dream was crushed upon reading a certain article.

So, I got to thinking (No it didn't hurt.), With that dream flying away, the next best thing would be to draft a D-lineman that will help our line be dominant for the next ten years. To be honest we haven't had a dominant line since it was Rucker, Peppers, Buckner and Jenkins. That was and still is the best line we've had.

As it stands now, we are a bit underwhelmed at the line. The trench wars are being lost. Our offense can only do so much. In the end everyone knows, Defense wins championships. With that in mind I've come up with the following formula.

Off season moves.

The cuts.

Jimmy Clausen- Do I really need to expound on the matter?

Jason Baker- Dude...you're a punter getting some seriously mad cash against the cap, gtfo. You punt kicks..

Armanti Edwards- ....Hurney wasted pick, waste of a roster spot.

Ben Hartsock- Later bro..

The Contracts.

There are some contracts that need to be re-structured or extended in order to have some wiggle room for free agency. I'm not completely sure about the whole schematics of the players contracts but I know there are several of them that are getting huge huge paychecks this year. If it can be done, please, do it.

Steve Smith- Extend the man for a couple of more years, trim some of that cap. 2 years I'd say, he has that much gas left in the tank.

Travelle Wharton- Re-structure this mofo. 7+ million...shave a little off the cap please!

Jordan Gross- See above, if possible not to sure what his contract info is but I know he's set to make around 7 million, close to. Might be more.

Chris Gamble- Extend his contract, he's an amazing corner. He's only 28, make him stay a panther and give us more money for whatever we may need to use it for.

Geoff Hangartner- He's great a Guard. Came back and played well. Extend him and lower the cap even more.

Thomas Davis- Yeah, yeah yeah. I know. Re-structure this son of a bish and shave off a crap load of money. Cutting him won't help with all the millions that's owed to him anyway. Let the guy make a comeback if he can, I hope he does. But make sure there's a clause that if he goes down, we will not feel it. Last shot TD...

The Returning.

Geoff Schwartz- He needs to be re-signed. He's young and does a great job.

Antwan Applewhite- To me this guy was rather under rated. He did his job and put up decent numbers. With TD gone this is only logical. Also he's depth for the position.

Thomas Williams- Another good LB that needs to shine, bring the guy back.

Derek Anderson-He knows the system, he's not Cam but I trust him to run Chudz offense.

Jordan Senn- Come on back bruh.

The Departed.

Jeremy Shockey- Love ya shock but Olsen is the man here and Barnidge needs to shine. I was contemplating to re-sign him but nope, I just couldn't do it.

Legedu Naanee- Seriously guy, why were you on the team? Oh right he was a Rivera guy. Well times up man, get your shiz and leave.

I'm missing someone...don't know who. It's 3 am and I can't think straight. Anyway, on to....

The Trade Market.

We need a 3rd round pick. I believe we can get one for this guy..

Jeff Otah- Hell of a player when he's not injured, there will be a team to take a shot at him for a 3rd rounder. The bears could be one of them. Yeah, that would be weird. They give us back our 3rd for Otah.. You never know.

The New Agents.

Free Agency, Ah yes. With all this money saved who are we going to go after? Here's someone who might help. This may be the full bulk of our monies saved but you know what? He's well worth it.

Mario Williams- Yeah, that's right. I went there. That 27 year old, 6'6 285 pound pass rushing beast of a man that can play either 34 OLB or 43 DE is going to be the piece we need on the other side of Charles Johnson. I'm taking a Texans approach to the situation, Ironic. I know. Give this guy CJ type money with what we saved up in trimming the fat and making wiggle room with other contracts. Pay the man, Pay this man!

That's it for the Free agency part... On to the draft.

The New Blood.

Our pick is up, we have the 8-9 pick in the draft. Here's how I believe it will go. With our new found pass rush, I believe we should give Brandon Hogan a shot, as well as Darius Butler at CB. So here goes the draft.

With the first round pick, the Carolina Panthers select..

1.Michael Brockers, DT, LSU

I've done more and more Research on this guy that I've ever done on anyone. I love the fact he's a phenom. Hate the fact he's only a one year wonder. He's the 'Cam Newton' of this draft for the DT position. I can't stress enough how much we need a powerful line. He will add fire power to that line. Instantly upgrading the Defensive Tackle Position. He will anchor that inside line for years to come. Welcome aboard!

2. George Iloka, S, Boise State

The 6'4 222 pound Safety is exactly what we need in the secondary, we play in a league that has some really good WR and TE. Our secondary will look very good after this acquisition.

3. Mitchell Schwartz, OT, California

Ah yes, the Schwartz wall. A very under rated guy, he's truly going to be the successor for Gross. I believe he can handle the job right here and now. But with Gross still on the team he could be learn from him. He can play both right and left tackle. He's what we need with our newly acquired 3rd round pick.

4. Michael Egnew, TE, Missouri

Great hands, great speed, great work ethic. This would add another vertical and red zone threat to our offense. He blocks decently but really, our TE's are weapons now. Thank you coach Chudzinski.

5. Cliff Harris, CB, Oregon

He's a very very good athlete. Luckily for us character issues do not apply to our players. If they see talent the new regime will take chances. He's a hell of a Punt return man as well, so that takes care of our PR.

6. Chris Rainey, WR/RB/KR/PR, Florida

Our new scat back. The one the coach wants because he knows the value of one. This guy can do it all. Return punts and kicks. Play wide out or running back. He's a Jack of all Trades so to speak. He's an extremely nice pick up and a bit of a value pick.

7. Shaun Powell, P, Florida State

He's the best in the nation. He kicks punts..nuff' said.

In conclusion, I'm tired. Thoughts?

Couple moves I don't care for (losing Shockey, don't love the Otah trade, but whatever). As a total package I love it, though. I think getting Mario is more unrealistic than hoping Claiborne falls to us, but who am I to smash dreams :) I think Iloka might be a *slight* reach, and I don't love drafting a TE but I could deal with it. Overall a solid 'A'.

I like how u cut hartsock by saying later bro. That would be funny as hell if that's hurney cut players. Haha. Hurney-" otah get your fat ass in here, I've come to the conclusion that u cant fart without injuring yourself. (Awkward silence) takes a deep breath. " later bro"

Oh and I dig the mock offseason. A+

I'm not tryin to troll or whatever or change the subject of this great mock and thread. But idk if u guys find it as funny as I do just thinking about otah ripping out one of those killer farts. Ya know the sharp pain ones. Hahaha and him injuring his back or tearing some ligaments and getting placed on IR. maybe a Little immature but considering I'm drunk and tired from work I think it's fuggin hilarious. All this needs is one of those fancy moving picture things hahaa. (not serious)

Hangman is a FA, so he should be in the re-sign section.

We are 9 million over the cap, so we would have to cut about 20 million to sign Williams. I just don't think that's possible.

I like your draft, but you would probably have to switch the 5th and 6th round picks. I don't think Rainey will make it out of the 4th, but I could see him possibly making it to the top of the 5th. You could probably get Harris in the 6th. Maybe not.

I would probably keep Otah. He is in a contract year and I think will preform well. I am more worried about us giving him a long term deal after this year and then watching as he reverts back into an annual IR player. If we did trade him we would have to sign an OL in the first couple rounds.

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
