If we want a NT- look no further than Dontari Poe

If we really want a NT for the future, look no further than Dontari Poe. He is the strongest guy at the combine with 44 reps. He is 6'5" and 350 lbs. He can collapse the pocket and can take on double teams with ease. He is compared to Vince Wilfolk. He could play nose or 3 technique easily and would be our Kris Jenkins.

He is listed as the third best DT in the draft but I think he may end up being the best one in the NFL. He is only a junior and is going to only get better as his body matures and he gets even stronger.

He is projected as best in the 1 technique in the 4-3 but he could also play at the 3 technique as well.

Seems perfect for us especially if we moved down and picked him up around 20. I wouldn't be against taking with 9 though. He could be here for a decade.

I am on the Poe train. He offers us so much versatility.

Also, people forgetting Ron Edwards is here. Shirley, Kearse, and McClain would offer amazing depth behind them.

I'm all for it.

I was hoping we could trade back and pick him up in the teens-20s, but I'm starting to think he just combined himself into a much higher pick.

Who would be our UT?

He may project more a 3 technique than a 1 technique until he learns better leverage skills so you could plug him in right away. His strength is penetration in a 1 gap system. The knock is that even at his size and strength he needs work on taking on double teams. Remember he is a junior. I would give him reps at 3 technique and start Ron Edwards. In a year or two would move him inside as Edwards gets too old.

Warren Sapp loves him and say all he needs is work on technique.

Poe is another guy i hoped would slip to us in the second. He is not now. His 350lbs look nothing like Wilfork's. Gotta love Big Vince but he has several lbs around the gut. Poe is leaner and stronger. He will not make it out of the first. On the merits of pure physical gifts he is a HUGE reason i was not aboard the BROCKERs BANDWAGOn.

Damn, Brockers and Still are little kids compared to this guy.

What makes you think he can be here for a decade though? Otah wasn't even here for a week.

Look at how athletic he is. He carries his weight very well and is very smooth. He seems to run with no effort. I don't remember injuries being a big issue.

The comparison is more about collapsing the pocket, getting upfield annd holding off double teams versus actual physical appearance.

Man, fug brockers and his one year of experience. All I needed was one little reason to hop off that overrated bandwagon and this is it. Brockers is much lighter and he ran a 5.37. Screw that. If Brockers doesn't have the size, the physique, the speed, the knowledge, or the experience, what is there to look at? How can he possibly have more potential than Poe? We need to start crossing our fingers guys because we sure as hell weren't the only ones to notice Poe's combine.

Plus Brockers is from LSU and he kinda looks Like Jamarcus Russell. No thanks.

    • Not totally inaccurate, haha Except that kid wasn't as excited as I was.  I was yelling louder, and more, and running around the room in circles until I almost passed out from exhausting and was trying to catch my breath for a good 10 minutes because I'm way too old to be doing that, LOLOL Oh, and I tweaked a muscle in my shoulder from all the punching the air I was doing too. For as awesome as that pick was for me, it really screwed me up for a few days between my shoulder and lost voice (Wrexham securing back-to-back-to-back promotions Saturday afternoon contributed to that though too).
    • Getting Pierce jr isn’t forfeiting the pick they just had 2 1sts this year.
    • Full disclosure and the real reason.... I'll be seeing my Nephew in basically one month from today, and while I've gotten him stuff from my other teams the past year, I hadn't been willing to saddle him with Panthers stuff yet, that's now changed lol. So if the jersey would get to me before I see him, I'd get that and him his first Panthers onesie/shirt so I can get a picture of us together in them. If it wouldn't get to me by then, I'd just wait to get the one I prefer.  So yea, my rush is really just about trying to get a picture of myself in it with my Nephew in Panthers gear too.
