Brockers vs Poe

The thing about Poe is this. He is only known for his workouts. Give me one good highlight vid you've seen on Poe's play, because I'm still searching. Months ago, the only true highlight of Poe, was him lifting weights. (Just like someone mentioned Jarron Gilbert's major highlight was him jumping out of a pool):D

So there's no question Poe is fit an athletic for a guy his size. Yet between the guy who's produced and the guy who can workout, you have to choose Brockers.

Here is the only one I found and he has some flashes but had trouble staying on his feet and sustaining his attack.

Yep. While everyone is oooing and aahing over Poe's combine workout, they are ignoring that he is a classic underachiever. Someone with those physical attributes should have been much, much more productive against the competition he played against, regardless of who was around him or how often he was double teamed.

The difference between Brockers and Poe is that Brockers moved up after people saw his game tape, whereas Poe only moved up after people saw him work out. And scouting reports say that Poe doesn't always play to his size and strength...well, I guess if we take him, we can finally say we have our very own Mike Mamula.

For the record, I'm not completely sold on either guy, but if we do use our 1st on a DT, I really hope it is Brockers and not Poe. i just have a hard time getting excited about a guy who has never been dominant despite having all those crazy athletic skills. To me, he is a rotation guy at best, and I'm not sure he will ever be any better than the guys we already have...at least McClain and Fua had decent production in college, even if they weren't ready for such a big role as rookies.

You said it all right there. Thank you

This is my first mock draft so please be kind lol, but let me know what yall think. I absolutely loves Brockers and Poe, but I don't believe that they're worth taking yet at 9th. So I see us finding a partner to trade back with. I can see us trading back with Cincinnati since they have two first round picks, where they'll move up to take Trent Richardson (i believe hell fall out of top 10) at our 9th and we'll then move down to their 17th spot and also grabbing their second round pick at 53rd. Our biggest needs are: DT, CB, LB, OL. This is how my mock goes:

1st Round (17th) trade w/ Cincinnati:

Janoris Jenkins CB North Alabama Sr. 5'10" 193lbs

Janoris-Jenkins_display_image.jpg

2nd Round (40th):

Fletcher Cox DT Mississippi State Jr. 6'4" 298lbs

2nd Round (53rd) trade from Cincinnati:

Brandon Washington OG Miami (Fla.) Jr. 6'3" 320lbs

4th Round (104th):

Emmanuel Acho OLB Texas Sr. 6'1" 238lbs

5th Round (135th):

James Hanna TE Oklahoma Sr. 6'4" 252lbs

6th Round (169th):

Drew Butler P Georgia rSr. 6'2" 205lbs

7th Round (199th):

Jordan Jefferson QB LSU Sr. 6'4" 222lbs

My reasons, simple and short:

-Janoris Jenkins has first round talents written all over him but also issues all over him. Though hell be a huge upgrade on D and talented enough to cover one on one with Julio Jones, Colston, Moore etc. Cowboys could take him at 14th but I see them taking either Mark Barron or Kirkpatrick esp. having Dez (problem) already. They doesn't want to take a chance with Jenkins.

-I believe Fletcher Cox could possibly fall into our hands at the 40th pick. Would be awesome if we could grab him there instead of taking either Brockers or Poe at 9th.

-Brandon Washington would solidify our OL. Maybe releasing Wharton or Hangartner for cap reason.

-Acho may be another player who could fall into the 4th. Depth at OLB for Davis.

-James Hannon helped himself at the combine and if Jeremy Shockey doesn't come back.

-We need a punter maybe even a kicker. Butler would be great and we could cut Baker.

-Jordan Jefferson, many of you guys would be like wtf with this pick, but he would be a decent backup in the future to Cam. Also a moblize qb, would also help in releasing Clausen or Anderson for cap space.

Check my first mock draft out. It's on the draft section. But thought I just post it in here also. Showing that if brockers n Poe don't wow me up to draft day. We should trade back n take Jenkins n hope cox fall into the second. Which cud happens. I dnt see a lot of teams in need of dt other than us, Denver, n NE. But see Denver taking poe, n NE taking OL n lb

I would only pick Jenkins is he were there at 40. He is the 4th best CB in the draft talent wise but gets a downgrade for character issues. No way would I trust him at 9.

Cox won't be there at 40. Once a few DTs go in the first 15 picks, there is a frenzy of DT activity and he is gone by 30.

I don't think we need Washington especially trading up. By the way, what did we trade to get him since you put in every other draft pick?? You would had to give next year's first to trade for a second. You would give up next year's first rounder for an OG in the second round??? Seriously???

We won't need Ocho since we picked up Kuechly with the first. Even if we don't I like Brown in the second.

James Hanna is projected as 7th rounder. Even with the combine speed his production doesn't speak to being a value pick. Besides haven't we spent enough 5th round picks on TEs who didn't work out?? I can think of 3 in the past 5 years.

Punters are a dime a dozen. I would get one that is a free agent or undrafted.

Finally Jefferson was not a good quarterback at all this year. If we go after a rookie there are others better.

Was that too harsh???? Sorry,. but you wanted feedback.

lol harsh? no..

i can guarantee you that even with issues Jenkins will be a 1st round pick. and 4th best talent wise? are you kidding me? hes the best pure cover corner in the draft. without the character issues, he wouldve been the number one cb this year.

i can only see two dts in brockers n poe goin in the first. if cox does go in the first, itll be a late first . but he could easily fall. there are so many good OL, LB, and DB in this year draft that teams will be snatching them instead of dts. not any of these dts this year are crazy good. teams with needs like us, and denver will be a few that will draft a dt.

and before you start criticizing me, make sure you read and take a look at everything before opening your mouth. i said " we trade with Cincinnati to get their first and their second" so with Cincinnati's second we take washington. i never said a thing about trading a first next year.

and now you going to say that we take another ILB Kuechly in the first. out of everything a middle line back in the first with so many other needs on defense. what are you taking? and then of course cox is not going to fall into the second but "Brown" and athletic freak of a lb who helped his stock in the combine going to fall into the second right? in your dream . hes problem one of the first top two lb to be drafted.

i only put jefferson up there bc many of you guys were crazy about how we should take a qb whose is similar to cam (mobile) . i wanted russell wilson but he'd be gone by 5th . thank you

You are right I didn't see the Cincinnati thing but we would have hosed them if they give us their second this year for them to move up from 17 to 9, maybe they give you a 2nd next year. But either way Jenkins is not a first rounder with all his baggage. In fact with Hogan projected as a starter I wouldn't go after corner in the first or second. As for Kuechly, he is not only a middle linebacker but he is whatever we want him to be. What people don't seem to know about him is that he lead the nation in tackles the last 2 years and was second his freshmen year. He had 7 interceptions (2 he ran back for pick sixes), 35 tackles for losses, and 17 passes defended and he was only a junior. His numbers were off the charts. To put in perspective his combine numbers were in line with Patrick Willis and he did more in college in 3 years than Willis did in 4 years. To the tune of 200 more tackles in 1 less year. He frankly would be an upgrade to every linebacker we have including Beason.

Brown is a great talent but did have some maturity issues which got him suspended from the Georgia Tech game which might drop him to the second. If not Brown there are many others who could fill the bill. But I don't think I would go that direction in the second anyway.

I would either pick up Kuechly in the first or a DT/DE. if we pick up Kuechly, then a DT/DE in the second. If we went DT/DE we would likely have to go BPA from available corners, linebackers, or a surprise pick who dropped down from the first whose value was too good to pass up like Kalil a few years ago. Mock drafts after the second round are really a waste of time because with all the flux after the first day, you really have to reset your board for day 2. There is no way you can accurately predict who is going to be there by round 3.
