Another Possibility

I haven't posted in a while, but with the draft getting close, I figured why not throw out another possible scenario that might happen this year (even though the chances are slim for this one). In this case, I have Trent Richardson falling to us at #9. I know everyone thinks he won't get past the Bucs because of the Barber and Wright signings, but I personally think Wright isn't a starting quality CB.

With Richardson still on the board (and despite the Green-Ellis signing), the Bengals could very well trade up to get an impact workhorse RB for their impressive run-blocking O-Line. So this is my dream scenario:

Panthers get: 17th overall pick (1st), 21st overall pick (1st), 84th overall pick (3rd)

Bengals get: 9th overall pick (1st), 40th overall pick (2nd)

1 - Quinton Coples, DE, UNC

Some might think that Coples won't fall this far, and with his natural talents, it's hard to argue. However, with his motor in question, it's not too crazy to say he could make it to the 17th pick and be of great value.

1 - Stephon Gilmore, CB, USC

Call me a South Carolina homer all you want, but I think Kirkpatrick and Gilmore are very similar players and I'd be happy with either. Both had decent combines, but Gilmore hasn't had any off-field issues.

3 - Joe Adams WR/PR Arkansas

Some say he might be the next Steve. That's all I need to hear.

4 - Nigel Bradham, OLB, FSU

Great coverage linebacker who could be the perfect backup for TD. Plus, he can lay the wood.

5 - Terrell Manning, OLB, NC State

With Dan Connor gone, we need all the depth we can get at LB, so I could see us grabbing one more in the later rounds.

6 - James Hanna, TE, Oklahoma

He blew up the combine with a special combination of size and speed. We might not have Shockey next year, so this could be a great pick.

6 - Levy Adcock, OT, Oklahoma St

Nothing wrong with a little OL depth. Amirite?

7 - Drew Butler, P, Georgia

I don't like Baker. 'Nuff said.

All in all, I know that this is pretty improbable, but I just wanted to make an interesting mock (since this is the first one I've ever done) and see what you guys think. Thanks.

I could go for that, but I can't envision a scenario where Coples drops that far. If he makes it out of the top 10 I'd be shocked.

Yeah, getting Coples at that spot is wishful thinking. If Coples isn't there, then I would be happy with whoever Hurney thinks is the BPA for any of the D-Line positions.

Same here, would probably be a DT there. I'm not a huge Ingram fan but would gladly take him at that spot if he was still there.

I agree with that too, but I think Coples has a better chance of falling. If we're stuck at #9, which is what's probably gonna happen, I would be pumped if we got Ingram or Coples. I trust Hurney in the first round, so I'm confident he'd make the right choice between the two.

Highly doubt either Coples or Ingram fall to 17 (they're both ranked top10).

If we did manage to make this trade though, I'd probably take a risk on one of those DTs at that spot.

I like Gilmore, but I've seen him give up way too many big plays over the past 3 years to take him in the 1st, even though he clearly has the talent.

Preferable for me in this scenario would be a DT and Fleener in the 1st.

CB class is deep so you can get value in the 3rd.

Coples at #9 is pushing it. No way he falls all the way to #17. With the first two picks, you might as well get Dre K and Devon Still, then the rest of the draft be like you have it.

I'd be good with this, although as previously said Coples won't be there at 17. Fletcher Cox would be though. May also grab somebody different than Gilmore at 21, but I like the other picks.

Yeah this is definitely a dream draft of mine, and I couldn't help putting him up there because he's grown on me lately. And I personally think that Dre, Janoris, and Gilmore are all on the same level. This draft was more for the trade than the players. I think it would be boss to be able to solidify the d-line and secondary in the late first round, no matter who the players are, because Hurney is the man in the first round usually.

If we can pick up someone like a Coby Fleener in the 2nd then I don't mind TE but there's no reason (imo) to draft a 6th round TE. You have Greg Olsen, Gary Barnidge, and Richie Brockel. No late round pick would be a noticable upgrade over these guys. Barnidge had a nice training camp last year. They have some expectations for him.

I see your point about Barnidge, but I think Brockel's ceiling is pretty low. If we didn't have so many needs on defense, I would be cool with a TE in the 2nd, but I feel like the front of the draft needs to focus on D. I like the idea of trying to go for a very toolsy TE late in the draft to create competition with Barnidge for the future spot that Shockey will leave. The numbers Hanna put up at the combine were pretty impressive, and I'd love to see if Chud could mold him (or Barnidge for that matter) into a potential beast.
