So you don't think Cam, Williams, Tolbert is a top tier rushing attack on its own?

Tolbert can play the checkdown/pass protector role just like Stewart did. He did it in SD and had more production than Stewart in that role.

i'm talking about him as a STs guy.

i think we'll be fine enough with cam, williams, and tolbert. it's not a huge deal either way. i think they'll be able to make it work. i just think we'll be better with stewart in there than not in there and i don't really see keeping him around to be the giant problem that others do.

So we are better off keeping Stew who will only get in the game 1/2 of the time at most and thats a stretch than getting a starting CB in the draft?

Well I would agree they would be better with Stewart. Easily the best RB overall in Carolina today. But collectively, we are comparable with or without him.

i don't think that tolbert was brought in as a replacement for stewart. call me naive, but i really do think he was brought in primarily because (in order)

1) he wanted to be here and he'd do it for cheap,

2) because he adds another element to what we already have in the backfield (1+34+28+tolbert provides a lot more possibilities than 1+34+28+brockel and i do think we'll be running a lot of backfields like that just like we did last year).

3) because of what he brings to special teams (which unquestionably the biggest priority in offseason so far)

and 4) if we need a replacement for stewart in the event we can't keep him around (which won't be for lack of effort, desire, or cap space on the panthers part) then we'll have one.

if we do trade stewart, though, i'd rather it be mid-season when teams are really desperate and willing to give a up a ton of money. if we are going to go without him i'd rather it be after next season. i think he's much more needed this coming year than next season and i'd rather get a 3rd round comp pick letting him walk if it gave the team a better chance at the playoffs this year (which he most certainly does) than trading him for a 2nd or 3rd rounder this year and being weaker heading into the end of the season.

who says he'll only be getting in only 50% of the time "at most"?

did that happen this past year?

tolbert on the roster doesn't change stewarts play time. he's a FB.

Tolbert is a Fullback.... No one is taking Stewarts spot.

Have you watched Tolbert play? Brad Hoover was a FB. Tolbert has more rec, rec yards, rec TDs than any RB on our roster last year. He is a pretty much a do it all utility football player.

Tolbert didn't leave a million bucks on the table in SD to just lead block for RBs and play ST here. Tolbert was basically a co-starter in SD. He ain't coming here to just do dirty work for less money. Tolbert IMO has the safest job going into next season. He will be here. How they resolve the issues created with the other 2 is anyones guess

he also didn't do it to be a possible replacement for stewart.

dude came because they are going to find a lot of ways for him to be used in addition to the backfield we already have.

They found lots of ways to use him in SD. So lesser role, less reps and less money drove him here?

Tolbert part of a duo last year.....he will be part of a quartet here in terms of rushes. One ball. Passing team. Only so many backs on the field at a time.

Tolbert is ideal insurance regardless of which part of double trouble leaves after next year

171 touches, 971 yards, 7 TD

175 touches, 923 yards, 10 TD

189 touches, 1175 yards, 5 TD

Brad Hoover was a real FB and you wouldn't have to think about which one of those stat lines above was his and which were Double Troubles.

Tolbert has been a RB in Norv's offense the last 2 seasons despite being a FB. Even Brad Hoover WANTED the ball. Tolbert didn't take less money to give up touching the ball.....writing is on the wall for someone to leave after this year or sooner.

Peppers always got criticized for his play and walked for nothing and people were pissed at Hurney, Stewart has been great for us and could play out his contract and walk and it wouldnt be a big deal????..................I have my criticisms of Hurney too, but even i gotta admit he cant win with some people in this fan base.

DE is more valuable than a RB.

We have Cam, a top tier RB in Wlliams and a guy who fits the scheme in Tolbert. Double Trouble has always been a luxury. Peppers was our DL.
