Everette Brown DE FSU

What did we give up for him? We gave up a first round pick. Less than a first pick in fact, considering that we also got a 5th rounder for the trade. I think it's simple, if we had a first round pick and you would pick up Brown with that pick then the trade is worth it. It's the same as last year, it's not that we wasted a future first round pick, we're using one in advanced and just need to pay a bit for the time travel costs.

As to whether or not you think Brown is worth it, well I guess time will tell. Personally, I'm optimistic. You can criticize Fox for a lot of things, but when that 1st round pick is used on draft day, something good has always come as a result of it. I think we have all the pieces in place to make this move work.

i read an interesting scouting report on brown, i don't know if this has already been posted or not

Compares To: JOHN ABRAHAM, Atlanta -- Brown is not as big as Abraham, unless a Florida State coach handles the measurements (school listed him close to three inches taller than he actually is), but both are elite pass rushers in an age where teams put great emphasis on explosive edge rushers wreaking havoc in the backfield. Some compare Brown to Dallas' DeMarcus Ware, but he does not have the fluid hips to drop back in pass coverage, making it a potential unwise move to plant him in the linebacking unit. History says that Florida State defensive ends rarely excel in the pros, but if used in the right system like Indianapolis utilizes with Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis, Brown could be the one to break the Seminoles' jinx.

Fox isn't on the hot seat, despite the playoff lose. We were 12-4 and we lost a close game to the Giants that would have given us the #1 seed.

As for Brown, I LOVE the value of taking him where we did, except you can't say we got him in the 2nd round when we really took him with next year's first. In terms of draft value it was a HORRIBLE move. However last year's move trading up for Otah was horrible in terms of draft value, however the fact that our first rounder ended up being the 28th overall and Otah ended up being a great player made it worth it. Hopefully Brown is the same caliber player, because we gave up A LOT to get him.

    • Also, just for clarity, is this thread meant for general discussion of Bryce Young, or discussion of General Bryce Young?
    • The word I feel most comfortable using as a descriptor is "inconsistent". Haven't really seen anyone disagree with that. Consistency being one of the things I value most in a player, that makes me lean toward moving on. But he does still have both time and opportunity to prove otherwise. Mind you, having a streaky quarterback isn't exactly a new thing in Charlotte (you could argue it's been the norm). Delhomme was notorious for starting slow but finishing strong. He could sadly also find hos way into ruts that were difficult to crawl out of. Newton, on the other hand, was often known to start hot but fade late (the vast majority of the 2015 season followed that pattern) though it could be argued that was a team pattern as much as it was Cam's.  There are definitely some fans for whom this is always going to be a bridge too far. (or too short) Realistically, it's not impossible that he could still have a good career even with those issues. It's a damn sight more difficult, though. And arguably, less likely.
    • Oh, I did, and they weren't based in emotions either. Granted, characterizing them that way gives you an easy out to avoid responding to them. Similar tactic to dismissing the other guy's points with "nah, you didn't really watch the games" which saves you having to debate what he said. Strikes me as a kinda lazy way to go, but hey both elements are still back there if you feel up to trying later.
