Our trenches extend 5 yards back into our defense....which is why we need such a good tackler

That is not what the trenches are defined as. Look at the Giants. Who are their LBers?? Point in case, the best team in the NFL wins in the trenches. On top of that, linbackers in a 4-3 are freed up by the trench play. Oh, and they put pressure on the QB, either collapsing the pocket or rushing the edges. Dline is a bigger need, and is arguably more important than stud LBers, especially when we have Beason and Anderson pretty much solidified as our three down-backers (assuming Davis can't make it through the season)

Everyone we have drafted worked out pretty well.....people bitched when Beason was drafted. So we shouldn't of drafted him either?

We've gotten like 3 starting seasons out of davis and morgan missed more games than he played here

So no i don't think it's worked out great for us

And now people want to spend the 9th overall pick to "cover our bases" at the linebacker position while we've literally got nothing behind Gamble at corner and a bunch of misfits at defensive tackle.

We will never get cheap elite defensive talent if we don't take risks in the draft. Taking o-line, running back, or a linebacker is a way to assure you get a good player in the first round. If any of you actually want a pass rush that doesn't cost 100 million dollars like mario williams did, then you should be leaning more on taking risks in the draft. Out of our past five years of drafting in the first, we have picked up 1 QB and 4 OL, RB, or LB. If we are ever going to be a team that truly builds from the draft, we need to draft stud special teams lbs that have starter POTENTIAL. Busts are going to happen, but if we don't try and acquire some top level d-linemen in this draft and future ones, we're setting ourselves back as a franchise as well as Cam and his coming legacy.

Would saying "I love you" be going too fast?

Beason, Morgan and Davis all are or were great talents.....poo happens in terms of injury.

Drafting Luke isn't much different than when they opted to draft Beason. Scheme is now more LB driven than back then.....

Beason and Luke could both play all 3 spots....would just have to get settled in. That is a good thing. Don't get too focused on MLB.

Contrary to asinine belief, it really doesn't matter who we drafted before. What matters is what we need now. Who the fug cares if we drafted a linebacker in the first round recently? Hurney doesn't. I'm not saying we should take a linebacker in the first, but that argument sucks.
