Who Is Still On The Roster Next Season?

If I am cho I keep the following:

Kemba - due to make roughly 2.6 mil next year with a two year team option the following offseason and a qualifying option for 2015.

Hendo - has a 4.2 mil one year offer sheet on the table this offseason.

Bismack - due to make roughly 3 mil next year with a two year team option the following offseason and a qualifying option for 2015.

Derrick (bench) - UFA

Mullens (bench) - 2.2 club option for the upcoming season and a qualifying offer the following year of a little over 3 mi.

DJ White (bench) - 1 yr. 3 mil remaining

Wiliams (bench) - 1 yr. 2.5 mil remaining

Thomas (bench) - 3 yr. 26 mil remaining (roughly). Considering he is pretty much untradable due to his contract I think you keep him coming off the bench. He has shown flashes of his old self rarely..but more so towards the end of the season.

Contract Obligations:

Carroll - is in the last year of his deal..making 3.5ish..might be attractive to a team for his expiring...if not just keep him inactive.

Diop - is owed 7.3 next year..but is also in the last year of his deal..might be a nice expiring for a team. if not just keep him inactive.

Maggette - is owed 10.9 and is also going to be in the last year of his deal...he might be more likely to be delt..if healthy..due to his expiring. If not..just let him expire..freeing up even MORE capspace.

Cut/Release Candidates

Eduardo - is a UFA..so he isn't coming back (if i am GM).

Augustin - did not sign his offer sheet..so if he isn't delt on draft day..he is probably walking for nothing.

Higgins - is gone (if i am GM).

Moon - is gone (if I am GM)

I really see the 'Cats as a good bench squad...especially with Mullens, Brown, Wiliams, and White. Kemba, Hendo, and Biz are probably going to start along with Maggette. Add a rookie to the bench and hopefully Davis..this is team is still staring at a top five pick next year. Hopefully that will be Shabazz Muhammad. Just my two cents.

Augustin will still be a RFA so we can match whatever offer he gets from another team if we want to. Other than that I'm pretty much with you.

One thing we need to keep in mind is we still have the amnesty clause we can use. I feel like we are another year away from going after some big free agents, so I don't think we will use it. Still Thomas would probably be my choice if we did. Carroll, DIop and Maggette will all be off the books after next year. If we amnesty Thomas we would have LOADS of cap space.

If anything, the 'Cats will be in GREAT shape a year from in terms of cap space and young talent.

I agree that Thomas may be an amnesty candidate...especially with how well Mullens and White seem to be playing off the bench. A crowded front line with the addition of Davis (hopefully) will further justify that case.

If there were not contracts and obligations..I would only want to keep a handful of guys:

Kemba, Henderson, Bismack, Mullens, Augustin, Williams, White, and maybe Derrick Brown.

Most of them would be decent role players/bench guys and are young enough with enough potential to be considered assets and trade peices. There maybe two or three decent starters in the group one day..Henderson/Kemba/Biz. Add a draft pick this year and two next year...things would be looking up.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
