Melvin Ingram May Be The Best Pick At De And Lb For The Panthers

Only thing I worry about when looking at Ingram are his arms. Guy has great tape and a strong motor, I just worry that in the NFL his natural ability wont be enough to beat good LT's. I wouldn't have a problem taking him though, if Hurney and Rivera believe he's the guy I trust their judgement.

With as athletic as he is and versatile you wouldn't want to line him up in one position. As you said he could cause mismatches at several positions depending on what set we were in. Just as Newton is the new breed at QB, Ingram could do the same in a hybrid scheme like we run. If we are going to blitz from the Sam position 50% of the time, who better to do it than Ingram. I don't know if we will be that creative or will opt for a more traditional approach like bringing in Coples or Cox, but he surely does offer some unique skills. I read that he was working out with Von Miller and Miller didn't believe Ingram could do a backflip from a standing stationary position. Apparently was very impressed when Ingram just stood there and did it for him. He is an amazing athlete.

From what I have read that is a bigger concern with O linemen than defensive linemen since O linemen have to read and react while D linemen attack.

Yeah, if you have short arms at O-line you might as well play guard, ex. Robert Gallery. I just worry about Ingram being an easy target to get latched onto, given, 31" arms aren't bad.

Whoa, coples can play dt, de, and stand up, coples is the most versatile d-line player in the draft, with the most potential, cuz he has doubters to disprove, and he has the ability to do it, and id rather hav a player with something to prove, like jenkins jeffreys, gilmore, zach brown...

    • Yes, he's a tier above them, but you also touched on the money side of it.  With T-Mac locked in as our #1 on a rookie contract for a few more years, I'd much rather use that money that would be needed for DJ on our defense and develop Coker into our #2.   Especially given his contract situation as an UDFA, as his contract is up at the end of this year but we can keep him around for a 3rd team controlled year on the real cheap.  Which means we probably could get him to sign a very reasonable extension this offseason to give him a little more money while giving us a bargain contract for what he provides. DJ's contract is north of $20 million for the next 5 years, why pay that for your #2 WR with the needs we have on defense and you have guys like Coker, XL, and Horn on rookie contracts who very well could combine to be a serviceable 2-4 WRs behind a stud in T-mac? I love DJ and he'd be a great fit on this team as our #2, but the money side of it just makes absolutely zero sense, that's all it comes down to for me on this one. And no, I don't see the Bears wanting XL back in that trade, because they drafted Burden, who is essentially a better version of what XL provides, a player you want to get the ball into their hands and let them go to work.
    • I didnt see that many bad calls in the panthers cowboys game, but the chiefs especially in the playoffs were getting every single call they could get then the refs when it didnt matter would throw a call towards the other teams.  That I believe was the taylor swift effect.   But its crazy just thinking about how easy it is to change a game.  You dont need but a single ref to make a few close calls go towards one team over the other and in the nfl that is the game.
    • I don't think it's unrealistically blaming Bryce Young......to say has been a reason, sometimes a big one, in why our pass offense overall has been extremely week over the past 3 collective seasons.  I think that bothering anyone, is just being overly invested in some Bryce Young argument.  It's just a reality.
